Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) is excited to launch the recruitment of the Vice President of Academic Affairs Positions at the following colleges:

• Glendale Community College

• Mesa Community College

• South Mountain Community College

This recruitment process will be supported by the District in collaboration with ACCT, and all three colleges in an effort to bring the best candidates to MCCCD. The Vice President of a Maricopa Community College, helps work in tandem with the college leadership by planning, directing, evaluating and providing oversight of the major College functions, academic areas, or instructional support services which function under the direction of a College President and serves as a member of the College’s senior management team.

• Several of our colleges have been eligible to compete in The Aspen Institute College Excellence Program, the nation’s signature recognition of high achievement and performance among America’s community colleges. The eligible colleges include Chandler-Gilbert, Estrella Mountain, GateWay, Mesa, Paradise Valley, Phoenix, Scottsdale, and South Mountain.

• Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) has received accreditation approval from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) for seven bachelor’s degree programs that launched in Fall 2023. MCCCD is the first community college in Arizona approved to offer bachelor’s degree programs under the S.B. 1453 legislation and is working as a system to implement and sustain this new opportunity to serve our community.

• MCCCD is uniquely positioned throughout the state to develop strategic partnerships with local and national corporations including Apple, Adobe Systems Inc., State Farm, and Galvanize. MCCCD is a leader in regional workforce development, cultivating key partnerships with industry leaders, including Amazon, Boeing, Intel Corporation, and many more.

• MCCCD offers eight Arizona State Department of Education-approved certification pathways at the undergraduate and post-baccalaureate levels. All programs lead to Arizona teacher certification, preparing teachers for the classroom and assisting with the statewide teacher shortage.

• MCCCD is an Alliance Partner of Achieve60AZ, a statewide initiative working to ensure 60 percent of Arizonans obtain a post-secondary education by 2030.

• MCCCD has become a national leader in security, including cybersecurity, terrorism and public policy by building strategic partnerships with the National Security Agency (NSA), the National Center of Academic Excellence (CAE) and industry leaders like Linux.

• In 2022, MCCCD partnered with the City of Phoenix to launch Route to Relief, a workforce development partnership that utilizes the City’s federal pandemic relief dollars to provide free tuition, monthly stipends, and employment assistance to eligible students in programs across the system’s ten colleges.

• In 2022, U.S. First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden, joined MCCCD and Intel Leaders to announce the System’s new Semiconductor Technician Quick Start Program. The program has since garnered national attention, becoming a model for colleges and universities across the country.

• MCCCD received a $499,987 grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support the development and implementation of ASSIST, a student success technology suite that produces user-friendly student data.MCCCD received $1 million in federal Community Project Funding to further bioscience program development across the system’s ten colleges.

• The first-of-its-kind artificial intelligence and machine learning degree and certificate program won the 2022 Innovator of the Year award in Academica during the 19th annual Governor’s Celebration of Innovation Awards.

• Jessica McDonald, Phoenix College alumna, represented the U.S. in the 2019 World Cup Championship game and was inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame in 2022.

• Dr. Sian Proctor, a South Mountain Community College professor, joined a four-person crew for Inspiration4, the world’s first all-civilian mission to space.

Maricopa County Community College District

Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) is one of the nation’s largest and most innovative community college systems. Job Summary

Plans, directs, evaluates, and provides oversight of a major College function, academic area, or instructional support services function under the direction of a College President and serves as a member of the College’s senior management team.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in a teaching field and four years of experience in an academic leadership and/or supervisory role in higher education and three years of full-time undergraduate teaching that includes curriculum/coursework development. Examples of academic leadership/supervisory experience include but are not limited to: division/department chair, project management, policy development leadership, administration, evaluation and compliance leadership, committee leadership, program director, and shared governance leadership.

Desired Qualifications:

• A doctorate degree

• 5 years of full-time undergraduate teaching experience

• Full-time teaching experience at a community college

• 5-7 years of academic affairs leadership experience (i.e., department/division chair, dean, faculty leadership)

• Experience in a multi-college system

• Experience with Guided Pathways

• Experience with accreditation (discipline or college)

• Demonstrated use of strategies in conflict resolution and facilitation

• Examples of commitment to the core principles of the professoriate: shared governance, academic freedom, and peer review
