Position Summary

At PriceSpider we create sophisticated web crawling services and data analytics solutions. These services feed our industry leading applications which provide product analysis for some of the largest brands in the retail industry. The Technical Operations team is responsible for creating and maintaining all scripts that crawl seller data, as well as monitoring the core platform to ensure that all crawled data is stored and used appropriately. The Technical Operations and Platform Specialist is responsible for creating and maintaining a library of scripts that crawl and parse data from seller websites. Additionally, you will be able to participate in creating the next generation of tools that will continue to keep PriceSpider on the cutting edge of technology.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and collaborate with other IT and Software Engineering team members on tasks and projects and to drive solutions
  • Install, deploy, configure, test, monitor, patch, troubleshoot, and maintain systems resources and services for IT infrastructure built on Linux and Windows technologies
  • Address processing performance issues in collaboration with other teams
  • Assist Software Engineering teams in troubleshooting and solving application tier issues
  • Assist in maturing application and IT services and resources to meet reliability, maintainability, agility, scalability, security and capacity requirements
  • Expand and refine systems monitoring and response to meet SLAs
  • Serve on a flexible rotating on-call support team for issues
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of issues, including in-depth technical analysis, troubleshooting and resolving root causes; engaging with appropriate SMEs as needed to drive incident and problem management
  • Create scripts that utilize JavaScript and JSON (primarily) to crawl and parse data from various websites in various languages
  • Maintain library of scripts and update scripts as websites change
  • Leverage internal tools and databases to help test and monitor scripts
  • Research and troubleshoot complex issues associated with crawling and storage of data retrieved from websites
  • Help create a standard of quality within the team and across the organization
  • Participate in code review and quality assurance processes
  • Interface with product management and engineering team to drive best practices and future generation tools

Bonus Experience and Education

  • Configuration Management Tools (1+): Ansible, Puppet, Juju, Chef
  • Containerization: Helm & Kubernetes, Docker or LXC
  • Languages: PowerShell, C#, Javascript / NodeJS / TypeScript, Go
  • Data Platforms: ElasticSearch, Memcached, Redis, Hadoop (HDFS, Hive, HBase, Spark, Zookeeper, Yarn, Kafka)
  • Education and Certifications: CCNA, RHCE, AWS Certifications, Google Cloud Certification, Dell Certification (server, storage, networking)
  • Quality Control: the individual demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality
  • Communication Skills: ability to write, speak, and present information effectively and persuasively across communication settings

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, Associates degree or equivalent work experience; technical certifications a plus
  • Three to five years of experience with JavaScript and JSON
  • In depth knowledge of websites and UI navigation, including HTML/CSS
  • Experience with open source tools and resources
  • Experience working in a Linux environment is a plus
  • Experience with SQL is a plus
  • Knowledge of regular expressions is a plus
  • Eligible to work in the US for any employer without sponsorship
