Position: Buyer / Purchasing Agent (3-5 years’ experience)

Who may apply: US Citizens. (Dual citizenship, visa statuses or permanent green cards are not eligible)

Hours: 8am-5pm Mon-Fri

Travel: minimal travel (rare travel to suppliers; mostly regional day trips)

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain or related field preferred

Experience: 3-5 yrs. min purchasing experience in a manufacturing purchasing organization preferably working with engineered to order product. Complete project ordering experience is preferred


Under the direction of the Purchasing Supervisor and within assigned projects of responsibility, purchase materials, equipment, supplies, and services for high dollar value and complex engineered to order mechanical product. Identifies sources, interview vendors, maintains requisite files and records. Trouble shoots and expedites as necessary.

Job Duties:

Responsible for purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment, and supplies from vendors for particular projects assigned to.

Evaluates vendor quotes and services to determine most desirable suppliers.

Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.

Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals to perform a variety of tasks.

Works under general supervision

Will utilize the material requirements system and the inventory system the company uses to keep production functions working smoothly.

Increased buying-related responsibilities as position progresses.

Check orders going out and verify that shipments come in.

Reviews and evaluates properly authorized requisition, identifies sources, and interviews vendor representatives; evaluates such criteria as quality, cost, conformance to specifications, availability, delivery, vendor performance history, etc.

Reviews proposal from vendors and negotiates among acceptable bidders for contracts, keeping within budgetary limitations.

Maintainsanassortmentofrecordsreflectingsuchinformationasvendorperformance,price history and modification, product quality and performance, inventory,etc.

Periodically evaluates recurring material order to determine pricing, service, etc. of vendors continues to be advantageous to the company.

Evaluates and investigates problems encountered by Production, Quality Assurance, and other departments, relative to purchased materials, equipment and services.

As necessary, expedites and otherwise follows up on purchases to assure adherence to delivery schedules,changes in amounts, material specification,etc.

Reviews and checks vendors' invoices, receiving slips, credit memorandum, and other similar documentation.

As required, will provide leadership,guidance and assistance to departmental clerical employees engages in preparing purchase orders, checking of invoices, and the filing and maintenance of records.

Education and Experience:

• 3-5 yrs min purchasing experience in a manufacturing purchasing organization preferably with complete project purchasing experience

  • BS level education or equivalent experience in business and accounting areas
  • Purchasing for manufacturing operations and overall experience ordering for heavy fabrication (welding), machining and heavy assembly areas is required
  • Finance background is helpful and preferred
  • Demonstrated team skills (ability to build and maintain cross-functional relationships based on win – win goals and objectives).
  • Strong ERP/MRP experience required
  • Ability to integrate purchasing strategies with internal and external client objectives.
  • Self Motivated with an excellent attention to detail is required
  • Demonstrated effective communications (oral, written, & electronic) & interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated effective planning, organizing, computer, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Demonstrated effective personal computer skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, E-Mail, and Internet.
