Job Summary: Manages the financial affairs of the organization and prepares financial analyses of operations, including interim and final financial statements with supporting schedules, for the guidance of management. The Controller is responsible for assisting management in the development of the company's financial plans and policies, its accounting practices, the conduct of its relationships with lending institutions, the maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports.The controller also has responsibility for HR functions with support of an outside HR consulting company.

    EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration, or equivalent business experience
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain the company's system of accounts and records on all company transactions and assets;reconciling, balancing, investigating and resolving any account discrepancies.
  • Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
  • Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly
  • Process payroll in a timely manner
  • Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed
  • Maintain the chart of accounts
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system to ensure efficiency and accuracy
  • Issue timely and complete financial statements eachmonth
  • Provide for a system of management cost reports
  • Provide financial analyses as needed
  • Coordinate the provision of information to external CPA for year-end close
  • Monitor cash levels
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings as directed by CPA firm
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes cooperation with customers, subcontractors, vendors, co-workers and management
  • Provide counsel to the President and Executive Team to assure the company meets financial performance goals
  • Prepare reports for management that outline the company's financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and future operations
  • Point out financial problems, or potential financial problems, and make recommendations as to how to resolve them
  • Ensure that Project Managers are provided the financial information they need to manage projects
  • Manage project revenue and gross profit reports
  • Manage outsourced functions such as CPA firm, 401k Administration and Payroll  processing
  • Review all contracts, insurance policies and legal documents with the support of outside counsel to protect the organization from potential risk
  • Understand and anticipate contract issues to protect the company

     

    HR Functionality

  • Develop policy and direct and coordinate human resources activities, such as employment, compensation, labor relations, benefits, training, and employee services
  • Analyze wage and salary reports and data to determine competitive compensation plan
  • Write directives advising department managers of Company policy regarding equal employment opportunities, compensation, and employee benefits
  • Consult legal counsel to ensure that policies comply with federal and state law
  • Oversee the analysis, maintenance, and communication of records required by law or local governing bodies, or other departments in the organization
  • Identify legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensure policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance
  • Plan and conduct new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward Company goals
  • Keep records of benefits plans participation such as insurance and 401k, personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting
  • Coordinate management training (training performed by outside HR consultant) in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review,safety, and sexual harassment
  • Advise management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues
  • Respond to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs
  • Administer performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within organization.
  • Administer benefits programs such as health, and dental insurance, 401k plans, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance
  • Investigate accidents and prepare reports for insurance carrier
  • Contract with outside suppliers to provide employee services, such as temporary employees and search firms
