Full-Stack Engineer - Help Fight Hunger

Tyche Project - Boston, MA

A Boston-based, venture-backed technology startup helping the world’s largest food businesses manage unsold inventory more effectively. The software includes 1) an enterprise web platform that allows food businesses to track and analyze the products they are and aren't recovering, as well as 2) an online marketplace that facilitates real-time food donations, discounted sales, and organic waste recovery opportunities.

Born out of MIT and an alumni of Techstars and MassChallenge, this organization is backed by some of the nation’s leading food, ag and supply chain investors. The company prides itself on its collaborative culture and mission-driven aspirations, and values transparency, personal growth, and results.

The Role

We are looking for a Full Stack Engineer with a driving passion to ensure that our customers have the most pleasant experience using our platform. We want you to collaboratively write software that makes repurposing food through our platform easier than throwing it away. You will be a foundational member of the engineering team; you will design, write, and test core features of our platform, and are self-driven to solve any development challenge that crosses your path. You will have a meaningful impact, working at an early-stage startup with a hard-working, dedicated, and passionate engineering team.

We don’t expect you to already be fluent in our current tech stack; technology choices change with time, circumstance, and business need. We do expect you to learn and grow with us as those choices change.

As a Full Stack Engineer

You will:

  • Collaborate on data modeling and system architecture
  • Design, write, and test our web application
  • Contribute to design and implement UI/UX
  • Incorporate third-party APIs for services, such as payments and communication
  • Develop our unit and end-to-end testing suite
  • Embody our mission to reduce food waste

You have:

  • Have 1-3+ years of professional software development experience
  • Strong knowledge of at least one server-side language
  • A background in frontend development, including JavaScript, HTML5, CSS, and templating
  • An eagerness to tackle challenges anywhere in the stack, from data modeling and API integration, to behavior driven development and data visualization
  • Profound respect for data security and integrity
  • History and desire to share DevOps responsibilities
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment
  • A successful track record as a hard-working, creative, and execution-oriented team member
  • Passion about food, food waste, and/or sustainability

You ideally have:

  • Experience with Node.js, GraphQL, and/or React
  • Worked with a NoSQL Database like MongoDB
  • Interest and experience in data mining, machine learning, and/or data analytics
  • Experience querying databases and tuning application performance

Our clients are equal employment opportunity employers. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, or disability.

ONLY CANDIDATES CURRENTLY LIVING IN OR WILLING TO RELOCATE TO BOSTON PLEASE. UNFORTUNATELY, SPONSORSHIP OF ANY KIND IS NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.
