Absolute Staffing is searching for a Health and Safety Specialist Consultant to work with our client

Location: Harrisburg, PA (and statewide travel)

Position Overview:

The Office of Administration is seeking a Health and Safety Specialist Consultant to work with Commonwealth of Pennsylvania agencies, including the Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and State Police, to ensure safety program compliance and reduce workplace injuries.

This hybrid role offers telework flexibility but requires:

  • Travel to locations not accessible by public transportation.
  • Occasional full workdays in an office environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Management:
    • Oversee two onsite safety professionals:
      • One working with PennDOT (based in Western PA).
      • One working with State Police (based in Harrisburg).
    • Provide effective leadership and coaching to ensure agency needs are met.
  • Planning and Organization:
    • Plan and organize service requests to meet target dates and production goals.
    • Utilize agency action plans to set deadlines, assign responsibilities, and track progress.
  • Training Development and Delivery:
    • Adapt or create health and safety training materials as needed.
    • Deliver training sessions in-person or via webinar, based on agency requirements.
  • Safety Assessments and Audits:
    • Conduct hazard identification inspections, incident investigations, and AIPP reviews.
    • Ensure compliance with the Accident and Illness Prevention Program (AIPP) and agency policies.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting:
    • Analyze injury data and trends to identify areas for improvement.
    • Prepare detailed technical reports with actionable recommendations.
  • Compliance Support:
    • Collaborate with agency safety coordinators to ensure AIPP completion, annual reviews, and updates.
    • Provide expertise in injury/illness prevention, safety, and industrial hygiene.
  • Independent Work:
    • Provide on-site health and safety support.
    • Perform technical research and share findings with agency personnel through reports, email, or verbal communication.
  • Relationship Building:
    • Build strong relationships across all levels of employees and management.
    • Deliver excellent customer service and support to foster a strong safety culture.
  • Travel Requirements:
    • Up to 20% travel, including periodic overnight trips and occasional visits to Harrisburg.
    • Must have personal transportation and the ability to travel statewide.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Education:
    • B.S. in Occupational Safety and Health or related field, OR
    • B.S. in any field with a PA L&I BWC AIPP Qualification.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in occupational safety.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication and assessment skills.
  • Background Checks: Ability to pass State Police background checks for access to State Police facilities.
