Military Veteran (Service Technician Apprentice) – A job that offers a career

Greater Houston Area

Adaptive Construction Solutions (ACS) is looking for military veterans interested in starting a career as a service technician at one of multiple locations in the greater Houston area.

While earning competitive wages, apprentices will gain experience repairing Class 4,5,6,7 and 8 International trucks including engines (Cummins, International and CAT), HVAC, instruments, brakes, frame, steering, suspension, tires, wheels, drive train, electrical system and other components. As well as diagnose failures of vehicles and disassemble, repair and reassemble parts as necessary. In addition to computer-based diagnostics; interface with modern truck programs and preventative maintenance.

Upon placement into a full-time job, veterans participate in an apprenticeship program that provides training required to grow in the career.

Apprenticeship

Registered apprenticeship programs provide apprentices the opportunity to progress from an entry-level job to a journey-level position through a combination of related technical instruction and on-the-job training. Wages are earned from day one of training, and as apprentices gain skills they earn incremental pay increases and industry recognized credentials.

Veterans

In addition to earning wages, eligible veterans may utilize their GI Bill benefits to receive a tax-free monthly housing allowance. The combination of apprentice wages and GI Bill benefits allow veterans to earn journey-level compensation while progressing through the apprenticeship.

Compensation

Starting at $15 per hour during orientation and training with possibility of rapid wage increases as competencies are achieved, veterans are eligible to apply for a monthly housing allowance as part of their GI Bill Benefits.

Candidate Requirements (no experience required)

  • Possess a valid driver’s license, a CDL Class A or B is preferred
  • Be self-starter with ability to pay close attention to details
  • Understand verbal and written instructions
  • Be reliable and practice good attendance
  • Ability to work in and promote a drug free environment
  • Able to carry 50/60lbs of equipment and lift 100lbs
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Provide references attesting to a good work history
  • Have completed high school or earned an equivalent
  • Willingness to submit to drug screening, physical and background check
  • Preference is provided to applicants who have served in the Armed Forces

Helpful Skills:

 

  • Background working knowledge of Navistar International trucks, Cummins and CAT engines
  • ASE certifications
  • Cummins/CAT/OEM Manufacturer Certifications
  • 609 Air Conditioning/Refrigerant handling certification
  • Understanding of electrical systems
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic and air brake systems
  • Bilingual ability (written and spoken English and Spanish)
