Executive Director

AgriCorps - Washington, DC

 

AgriCorps is seeking an organized, detail-oriented, experienced program manager to serve as the organization’s Executive Director. This individual will be responsible for carrying out the mission and vision of the organization, managing employees, presenting and executing the budget, and administering international programs.

 

AgriCorps creates an enabling environment and builds capacity for schools-based agricultural education systems in developing countries in order to reduce generational cycles of hunger and poverty. These systems transform local communities by diffusing agricultural innovations to farmers through in-school youth, as early adopters.

 

Responsibilities:

Demonstrate understanding of the mission/vision/strategy of the organization. Translate directives from the board into actionable plans to be executed on-time and on-budget.

Effectively manage employees and fellows, creating a culture conducive to collaboration. Administer programs with a high degree of efficiency, efficacy, and professionalism. Create, present, and oversee a budget that meets the organization’s needs prudently and transparently.

Communicate effectively to various stakeholders such as donors, policy makers, partners, allies, media, etc. Create and implement business processes to improve operational efficiencies.

Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of program management experience in either a non-profit or for-profit capacity
  • Must have created, presented, and managed budgets
  • Must have managed employees including hiring/firing responsibilities, managing conflict, and delegating tasks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated passion for and commitment to international development
  • Familiarity with the basics of school-based agricultural education
  • Willingness to work in a startup environment that requires creating order out of ambiguity
  • Willingness to regularly travel and spend time in developing countries

Helpful Experiences (Not necessarily required, but helpful):

  • Hands-on management of international agricultural development projects in-country
  • 4-H, FFA, or agricultural education experience
  • Production agriculture experience
  • Fundraising/grant writing experience
  • Management of federal contracts

Travel: 35%+/- including 3-4 international trips per year (mostly to West Africa)
