State and Local Tax (SALT) Associate Attorney -Junior (New York)


One of our national law firms is seeking a State and Local Tax (SALT) Associate in the New York office who can start promptly. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated with a keen interest in joining a preeminent controversy practice involving commerce clause and due process clause issues in the context of state and local taxation where they will primarily function as a litigator exercising 2 - 3 years of experience handling the following:

  • Assisting with trials and appellate proceedings
  • Researching multistate tax issues for all tax types, yet primarily in the income and franchise tax areas
  • Preparing legal memoranda
  • Drafting petitions, discovery requests and discovery responses
  • Assisting in the preparation of motions and briefs
  • Tax planning and analysis regarding issues such as corporate franchise and income taxes, sales and use taxes, real and personal property taxes, and telecommunications and electronic commerce taxes


The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • A strong interest in constitutional issues and multi-state litigation
  • Outstanding research and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills: concisely and effectively communicate complex matters in oral and written form
  • A strong work ethic and an action-oriented interest in taking on increased levels of responsibility for client matters
  • Strong academic credentials in law school coursework are essential
  • Bar admission in New York is strongly preferred


Compensation will be commensurate with experience, salary is flexible depending on the candidate (they told us to send over candidates with salary expectations)
