Director of Marketing and Business Development

A law firm with approximately 100 attorneys across seven offices located in California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington is looking for a Director of Marketing and Business Development to work out of its Los Angeles office. The position involves working with attorneys from all of the offices to develop new business opportunities, grow existing client relationships, and promote the firm’s brand and reputation.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of the firm’s practice areas, its attorneys, client base, systems and procedures
  • Conduct marketing research and evaluate competitors for client meetings, pitches/proposals, and other business development activities
  • Draft and assemble a wide range of business development materials, including pitch materials, RFP responses, presentations and brochures
  • Prepare and post news items and update content on the firm website and social media accounts
  • Write, edit and oversee the distribution of a wide range of internal and external communications, including client alerts, newsletters and press/news releases
  • Update attorney biographies, practice descriptions and firm marketing materials
  • Manage firm sponsorships
  • Research, identify and support speaking, writing and business development opportunities for the firm’s attorneys
  • Oversee the logistics for client events, speaking engagements, seminars and webinars
  • Reports directly to the firm’s partnership
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Occasional travel
Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Proficient in MS Office, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Experience with Adobe
  • Ability to handle a variety of projects and assignments in a fast-paced environment, working both independently and as part of a team
  • Project management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication and proofreading skills
  • Excellent time management skills, attention to detail, proactive, ability to prioritize and meet time-sensitive deadlines
  • Experience pitching articles to and working with media sources
  • A creative eye with some graphic design experience preferred
  • Five years’ experience in a legal marketing/business development role, though a highly-motivated, creative, and ambitious candidate with fewer than five years’ experience may be considered

Compensation will be commensurate with experience, salary is flexible.
