Conflicts Attorney - Washington, DC
We are working with an Am100 law firm that is seeking a Conflicts Attorney to join the Conflicts & Intake Compliance department. This is an opportunity to join an innovative and collaborative group. As part of a team of skilled lawyers and staff, you will work alongside partners to better understand their business needs.
Under the direction of the firm’s Director of Conflicts and Intake Compliance, you will support the firm-wide new business intake process, lateral hiring conflicts clearance process, and related conflicts and business intake processes.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Identify, analyze, and resolve or make recommendation for the resolution of potential conflicts of interest related to new firm business.
Review and draft conflict waivers, and review both engagement terms and outside counsel guidelines.
Work with the Director of CIC, firm Ethics Partners on conflicts analysis and resolution as needed.
Work with partners and the Office of the General Counsel to negotiate and draft waivers, disclosures, and engagement letters.
Conduct legal research related to conflicts of interest, new business intake, and firm policies related to the same.
Prepare communications to lawyers and others, clearly identifying all potential issues found in conflict reports to facilitate clearance process.
Maintain a solid understanding of current policies and firm best practices, and act as a resource in answering questions from other firm personnel with respect to the new business intake process, and policies.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) and admission the DC bar (active and in good standing).
A minimum of 2 years law firm (or other professional services firm) experience in a lawyer role is preferred.
At least 2 years conflicts work experience in a law firm, and legal, writing, or research experience related to the skills and duties of the position as described, strongly preferred.
Working knowledge of the DC Rules of Professional Conduct is required.
Familiarity with computer systems in use at law firms including business intake systems and research systems such as Moody’s, Bureau van Dijk (Orbis, Compliance Catalyst, World Compliance), LexisNexis and others.
