Job Description

Major law firm is seeking an associate with two to five years of general litigation or comparable advocacy experience to work with the State and Local Tax (“SALT”) practice in its Sacramento or San Francisco office. The associate will join a prestigious cross-office practice that advises and represents a broad range of Fortune 100 clients and industry-leading companies on a full spectrum of state and local tax litigation, consulting, planning, and policy matters. Firm’s ’s SALT group frequently works on hot-topic, groundbreaking legal issues, including legal questions of first impression and constitutional issues.


A successful candidate will have an excellent academic background. Exceptional writing, advocacy, analytical, research, communication, judgment, decision-making, time-management and organizational skills are critical. Candidates must enjoy working as part of a team and be able to take immediate responsibility for projects and matters in an active and growing practice. Just as important, the candidate must be committed to developing and growing the practice. Ideal candidate is a self-starter, confident, bright, hardworking, personable, efficient and detail-oriented.


Preexisting skills, knowledge and/or demonstrated interest in tax is helpful, but not necessary for this position. Trial or appellate experience would be particularly valuable, as well as significant experience with motion practice and discovery. Must be admitted in CA and in good standing. Current or prior employment with an Am Law 100 firm is a plus.
