UI/UX Designer for Product Development (Hardware)

Roles & Responsibilities

Under the direction of the VP of the R & D department the UI/UX designer will be responsible for researching user requirements, designing graphic elements and building navigation components. To be successful in this role, the candidate should have experience with design software and wireframe tools.

The candidate should have a portfolio of professional design projects that includes the design of graphics and story boards for small appliances using simple tactile feel membrane switches such as coffee makers and waffle makers as well as larger products incorporating high resolution TFT LCD displays with touch screens.

The UI/UX designer will be responsible for the following efforts:

  • Gather and evaluate user requirements in collaboration with product managers and engineers

  • Illustrate design ideas using storyboards, process flows and sitemaps

  • Develop graphics, icons, and animations for LCD displays used in small appliances

  • Work with firmware engineers to integrate the graphics into small appliances using processors operating without sophisticated operating systems such as Linux and Android.

  • Define user interfaces using simple membrane switches and fixed segment LCD displays.

  • Design graphic user interface elements, like menus, tabs and widgets

  • Build page navigation buttons and search fields

  • Develop UI mockups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how sites function and look like

  • Create original graphic designs (e.g. images, sketches and tables)

  • Prepare and present rough drafts to internal teams and key stakeholders

  • Identify and troubleshoot UX problems (e.g. responsiveness)

  • Conduct layout adjustments based on user feedback

  • Adhere to style standards on fonts, colors and images

Qualifications

Successful candidates will possess the following:

  • Proven work experience as a UI/UX Designer or similar role

  • Portfolio of design projects

  • Capability and experience working with small LCD displays and simple appliances incorporating membrane switches and segmented LCD displays

  • Capability to work with firmware engineers to integrate graphics into appliances using simple operating systems.

  • Knowledge of wireframe tools (e.g. Wireframe.cc and InVision)

  • Up-to-date knowledge of design software like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and to participate and contribute positively in work teams.

  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to complete projects, document work and communicate clearly both in writing and verbally.

  • Team Work - Highly Skilled - Ability to lead and work in Teams

  • Motivation - High energy - Demonstrates high urgency when working.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks

Education & Experience

  • BSc in Design, Computer Science or relevant field

  • Experience in electronic product development

  • Experience working with factories in China and Taiwan
