Head of Tax

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer
Position Overview
The Head of Tax will serve as the strategic leader of the company’s tax function, overseeing all aspects of domestic tax planning, compliance, reporting, and risk management. This executive will ensure the company maintains a tax-efficient structure in alignment with its REIT status, partnership structures, and corporate operations. The role requires a hands-on and forward-thinking tax leader with deep technical expertise in U.S. corporate and partnership taxation.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the tax function, managing all aspects of corporate, partnership, and REIT-related tax strategy, compliance, and risk management.
Oversee U.S. federal and state tax compliance, ensuring alignment with REIT qualification requirements and other regulatory standards.
Manage tax provision and reporting under U.S. GAAP, including effective tax rate forecasting, quarterly/annual provision reviews, and SEC disclosures.
Partner with business leaders to evaluate tax implications of investments, financing structures, and transactions across lending, infrastructure, and property segments.
Monitor changes in U.S. tax legislation and provide proactive guidance to executive leadership and the Board on potential business impacts.
Direct relationships with external tax advisors and auditors.
Build and develop a high-performing tax team, fostering technical excellence and professional growth.
Enhance processes and implement technology solutions to increase efficiency, accuracy, and transparency within the tax function.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; advanced degree (JD, LLM, or Master’s in Taxation) preferred.
CPA and/or JD strongly preferred.
15+ years of progressive tax experience, with significant leadership experience in a public company environment.
Deep expertise in U.S. corporate tax law, partnership taxation, and REIT regulations.
Strong track record of managing tax provision and compliance for complex domestic structures.
Proven ability to advise on M&A, financing, and partnership structuring.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and influencing skills with the ability to engage across executive, board, and external stakeholders.
Experience in financial services, real estate, or investment management industry highly desirable.
