Bordering Southeast Florida’s Atlantic coastline, Broward County is the 17th most populous county in the nation and the 2nd largest in the State of Florida. Home to over 1.9 million people, Broward County is located between Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties, forming the center of South Florida’s largest metropolitan area in which 6.1 million people reside.
The Broward County Aviation Department (BCAD) operates the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and its general aviation facility, North Perry Airport (HWO). FLL is a large-hub airport (defined as supporting more than 1 percent of national departing passengers) with commercial airline service which began in 1953. The Airport is one of Broward County’s most impactful economic engines, driving business and travel through one of Florida’s most popular locations. In 2019, there were more than 19,000 employees at FLL. Established in 1929 as Merle Fogg Field, FLL marked its 91st anniversary in 2020. Last year, FLL welcomed 28 million passengers, a 70 percent increase from approximately 16.5 million travelers in 2020. Domestic travel drove the passenger growth with 23.7 million visitors, up 77% from 2020. Meanwhile, at a slower clip, international traffic improved 38% percent to 4.3 million travelers.
With an ambitious $4 billion capital program in place, BCAD is seeking to fill the position of Chief Development Officer (CDO). This key position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer. A qualified leader, experienced with large capital airport projects will be required - one who is very capable from the Master Planning stage to the construction and cost control stages and throughout project completion. This position is responsible for all airport development projects and oversees and directs the activities of a staff of approximately 40 professionals.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in engineering, architecture, planning, construction management or closely related field and; six (6) years of executive level supervisory experience leading large complex airport projects in the area of assignment, which may include engineering, planning, design/construction and project management for a medium or large hub airport.
Salary range: $135,000 - $215,000 DOQ
