Annual Salary Range: $303,595 – $538,369

With more than 3,800 personnel, 106 fire stations, and an annual budget of $897 million, the LAFD protects over 4 million residents across 464 square miles. The next Chief will lead at a time of transformation, innovation, and civic visibility — shaping the future of a department known for its operational excellence, resilience, and community service.

Ideal Candidate

The next Fire Chief will be a seasoned fire service executive who brings:

• 10+ years of command and executive-level leadership in a large, complex fire service agency
• A track record of operational excellence, community trust, and strategic innovation
• Strong labor relations experience and a commitment to equity and accountability
• Executive presence and media fluency to represent the City during high-profile events and crises
• A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is strongly preferred
