What’s the job?

We are looking for an experienced technical leader to manage software engineers working on our websites and services. We are currently migrating to a React and Node.js based stack.

As the engineering manager for this team you will be responsible for working with a product manager and stakeholders to define a roadmap and vision for the team, and managing a team of engineers to execute against it.

• Deliver world-class technology for our React-based websites and Node.js services and libraries
• Partner with product managers and stakeholders on a cross-functional team to drive projects forward, provide leadership, and communicate vision to the team
• Help mentor and foster technical and professional development of the team
• Manage technical risk and debt for the web team
• Own the technical stack and architecture for the web team
• Help hire and recruit the best talent for your team
• Set the technical architecture for our advertising, analytics, and A/B testing systems and libraries
  
  

What do you need for this role?

• You have experience executing complex technical projects, including recent experience with Javascript based web projects with React and Node.js
• You understand JavaScript extremely in depth including patterns, modules and DOM manipulation
• You’ve been a member of high performing teams with strong engineering practices
• You release early and often and you’ve put the systems in place to do that safely and reliably
• You know the business impact of your work
• You have a strong creative drive and a keen sense for great user experiences across device form factors, and you carry a critical understanding of digital tools and trends
• Ideally, you have built tools and experiences for news or editorial content
