Bilingual Mobile Vaccination Community Health Worker

JOB SUMMARY

The Community Health Worker will support the Baltimore City Health Department COVID-19 Vaccine Initiative by providing public health outreach services to Spanish speaking communities, providing basic health education about vaccines and COVID-19 in community settings, and performing non-clinical operational roles of mobile COVID-19 vaccination clinics. This position will require community visits and in person work at vaccination clinics. Based on the progression of the epidemic response, the position responsibilities may shift from direct support to COVID-19 mobile vaccination clinics to include other aspects of community outreach and education as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The primary responsibilities of this position are:

  • Work as part of a team to hold outreach and educational events to vulnerable communities to promote vaccination against COVID-19

  • Assist patients in pre-registering for mobile COVID-19 vaccination events

  • Assign and document appointment times for vaccination events

  • Provide appointment reminders over the phone

  • Provide basic education about COVID-19, vaccines in general, vaccine safety, and the benefits of vaccination against COVID-19

  • Participate in program trainings and workgroups as needed

  • Assist in planning and promoting mobile COVID-19 vaccine events at community locations

  • Perform non-clinical roles in support of COVID-19 mobile vaccine events, including but not limited to:

                o Set up and break down of mobile vaccination sites

                o Patient registration and other administrative or clerical needs

                o Providing basic health education around COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccines

                o Directing flow of people through clinical spaces

                o Promoting and enforcing COVID-19 safety protocols

                o Documenting and tracking supplies and materials

                o Timing observation periods for patients

                o Sanitizing surfaces and maintaining a clean and safe vaccination space

  • Assist with other community outreach tasks and community education events as required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Possess good written and oral communication skills to interface with patients, other healthcare workers/providers and community, local and state agencies

  • Motivational interviewing and patient-centered goal setting experience preferred

  • Experience with electronic medical records preferred

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to perform tasks independently

  • English proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking to (1) interact with patient, (2) document the patients’ medical conditions in a standardized way, and (3) interact effectively with the staff at the hospital and other community agencies.

  • Sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the population served.

  • Excellent oral and written interpersonal and communication skills required

  • Problem-solving skills

  • Proven ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Fluent Spanish/bilingual in English and Spanish

  • High School Diploma

  • Strong computer literacy skills, specifically with MS Word, Excel, Outlook

  • Candidates will be expected to have reliable transportation to access several work locations

Preferred

  • Experience working in a community or home setting

  • Experience working with immigrant and Latinx communities

  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint (365) preferred

TIMELINE

  • This position will be a temporary contractual position.

  • Candidates will be required to work during one of three available shifts:

                o Monday-Friday 9-5

                o Monday-Friday 11-7

                o Tuesday-Saturday 9-5
