Baltimore Corps is looking to hire a Communications Associate with experience creating written and visual content for print and digital platforms. Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager, this person will assist in the development and implementation of Baltimore Corps’ communications strategies, in alignment with overall organizational mission and priorities. The ideal candidate will be passionate about Baltimore Corps’ values and enjoy engaging authentically across stakeholder groups and finding creative and innovative ways to reach diverse audiences. This individual is a self-starter with the ability to work independently and cooperatively to bring plans to fruition.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Having outstanding organizational and exemplary personal communication skills is a requirement for anyone in this position. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated skills in: communicating to different stakeholder groups; using technical tools for project management and measuring effectiveness; implementing effective digital communications strategies; and curating value-aligned content.

Using these skills, the Communications Associate will work in collaboration with the Communications Manager in the following ways:

Content Creation and Curation [70%]

  • Coordinate with key stakeholders both internally and externally to aggregate narrative opportunities
  • Develop new, and refine existing, organizational communications vehicles (such as annual reports, monthly newsletter, website, social media platforms, and print collateral)
  • --Play key role in website maintenance and upcoming overhaul
  • --Craft and deploy email messaging to various stakeholders, assisting with list management strategies and specialized campaigns
  • Create, edit, and publish engaging content, for both digital and traditional media, to advance the work of Baltimore Corps and its extended network
  • Create infographics, podcasts, and videos in-house and/or through partnerships
  • Support network partners in showcasing their stories and impact through collaborative partnerships and through Baltimore Corps’ social media platforms
  • Develop and maintain an informed awareness of topics of interest to Baltimore Corps to most effectively carry out duties

Digital Engagement [15%]

  • Expand the organization's use of social media tools and research new platforms through which to tell our story
  • Monitor online platforms to find and develop engagement opportunities in areas aligned with Baltimore Corps’ mission and values
  • Track and analyze digital metrics across Baltimore Corps’ platforms, as well as emerging media trends
  • Develop and execute small-scale digital advertising campaigns, and work with vendors and other staff on larger ones

Project Management [15%]

  • Manage ongoing project plans to ensure timely and quality delivery of projects
  • Lead efforts to utilize internal operational systems, and identify new technical tools to effectively and efficiently deliver on department’s strategies as necessary
  • Cross-functional support of all communications needs


  • Mission-driven spirit and alignment with the core values of Baltimore Corps
  • Relevant communications experience
  • Excellent writing skills with an ability to cater writing to multiple audiences: appropriate tone; compelling narrative; and storytelling
  • Project management skills, including a strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to prioritize competing tasks on tight deadlines
  • Strong skills in both social and traditional media
  • Comfort working independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic; eager to learn and engage with complex systems and processes
  • Knowledge of Baltimore landscape is a plus

Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Audition, etc.)

Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Required: Mid-level

Salesforce (or other CRM platforms)

Squarespace (or other CMS)

  • Required: Entry-level


The Communications Associate is a salaried position with health and dental benefits. In addition to health and dental, Baltimore Corps is proud to offer additional benefits for our employees including, but not limited to, generous vacation time, wellness policies, volunteer opportunities, and flexible work hours. The range for this position is $40,000-45,000. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with qualification and experience. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
