Switchgear Estimator Manager

We are recruiting a Switchgear Estimating Manager on behalf of the oldest wholesale electrical distributor in the Mid-Atlantic. They have specialized divisions to handle a diverse group of customers including commercial construction, lighting and switchgear projects, commercial facilities, facility management, industrials, OEMs, and government organizations.

As the Switchgear Estimating Manager, you'll be responsible for leading the team in the Laurel, MD office. You'll play a critical role in driving accurate and competitive quotations, mentoring team members, and ensuring process standardization.

Position Offers:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage 6–8 direct reports. Handle hiring, training, and performance management. Serve as the primary mentor for new hires.
  • Operational Oversight: Oversee day-to-day quotation activities for small, medium, and large-scale projects, ensuring total accuracy and timely delivery.
  • Strategic Growth: Participate in executive meetings to discuss growth projections. Engage in strategic thinking for quoting jobs, negotiating work, and improving pricing strategies.
  • Relationship Management: Act as a key liaison with vendor partners to optimize collaboration. Work closely with internal Sales, Engineering, and Project Management teams.
  • Process Excellence: Drive continuous improvement and standardization of estimating tools and processes in collaboration with other tier managers.
  • Technical Review: Analyze project specifications, drawings, and requirements to develop detailed cost estimates for medium and low-voltage switchgear systems.

Requirements:

  • Industry Experience: 5+ years in Switchgear Estimating, Project Management, or Sales.
  • Leadership Experience: Proven experience managing people OR a strong background in coaching/mentoring (we value leadership ability over a specific title).
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong background in manufacturing/distribution; expert ability to interpret electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Initiative: You are a "go-getter" who takes ownership. You don't just manage the status quo—you want to shape the organization.
  • Values: You believe in growth, going above and beyond, and keeping promises.
  • Education (Preferred): Bachelor’s in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Certifications (Preferred): PMP or relevant electrical/estimating certifications.
