The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis is responsible for overseeing the financial and accounting operations of the company, ensuring accurate financial and managerial reporting, and maintaining strong internal controls. Responsibilities include managing day-to-day accounting and finance requirements, along with aspects of billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budget management, financial planning and analysis, billing, forecasting, and financial reporting. This role includes implementing financial policies and providing insights for strategic decision-making. The Controller works closely with senior management to drive the company’s financial strategy and compliance. This position also works on any other initiative and ongoing projects as assigned. This position reports directly to the VP Finance.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Financial and Managerial Reporting:
    • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
    • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements
    • Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making
    • Assist with providing comprehensive financial updates to senior management by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Co-Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes with VP Finance, working closely with department heads
    • Monitor budget performance and analyze variances, making recommendations for corrective actions
    • Develop and implement financial planning strategies
  • Internal Controls and Compliance:
    • Establish and maintain a system of internal controls to safeguard company assets
    • Ensure adherence to accounting policies and procedures, including compliance with financial regulations
    • Coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data
  • Cash Management and Treasury:
    • Oversee cash flow management to ensure adequate liquidity for the organization
    • Monitor banking activities and manage relationships with financial institutions
    • Implement strategies for managing working capital and debt
    • Participate in monthly customer billing and processing customer payments into banking deposits
  • Team Leadership and Development:
    • Mentor the Finance team, providing guidance on accounting practices and professional development
    • Set performance standards, conduct evaluations, and support team members in achieving career growth
    • Foster a collaborative work environment and promote continuous improvement
  • Financial Systems and Process Improvement:
    • Evaluate and implement accounting software or system upgrades to improve efficiency
    • Streamline accounting processes and implement best practices
    • Assist VP Finance to implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, upholding federal, state, and local legal standards by remaining knowledgeable about existing, new, and future legislation
    • Develop and document financial policies and procedures
  • Strategic Planning Support:
    • Provide financial insights and recommendations for business growth initiatives
    • Participate in strategic planning meetings and contribute to the development of long-term financial objectives
    • Analyze financial trends and market conditions to guide decision-making
  • Perform numerous reconciliation activities, including bank account, credit card, and other statements and schedules
  • Help support short and long-term operational strategies of the department and company

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proven experience with accounting software (NetSuite, QuickBooks, etc.)
  • Expertise in budgeting, financial forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to tasks and responsibilities
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with peers, senior management, and executive leadership

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA, CMA, or similar professional credential or certification preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory or leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Experience with financial management software (e.g., ERP systems)
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times
