Senior Director of Sales and Marketing, Nursery 

Our Client is a well established Commercial Landscape and Construction company.  They own a major Nursery Operation and sell plants to all parts of the East Coast targeting Developers, Home Builders, Retailers, Nurseries and other facilities.  They have over 500 acres of field grown inventory that is sellable mainly consisting of Bushes, Shrubs and Trees. 

They are looking to bring on a Sr. Director of Sales and Marketing who can lead the efforts to expand the market for the company by identifying and implementing a new strategy that will yield in greater sales. 

The job description is as follows but will not be limited to:

  • Managing multiple regions while establishing sales goals and budgets for each member of the sales team.
  • Establish appropriate sales techniques to generate most of the sales volume and growth with company through expansion and customer demand
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers
  • Visit customers at their locations to understand their business
  • Visit competitor locations
  • Visit job sites to understand who is bidding jobs as this provides good leads
  • Attend all regional trade shows and bring back all market information
  • Arrange for tours of the farm with our larger customers for show and for tagging product
  • Understand the nursery operation, product and material
  • Tour nursery weekly to provide upper managements with what is or isn’t going on
  • Help find and purchase material for Parent Company
  • Suggest all pricing to the COO for Nursery
  • Weekly email topics and pictures and pricing – this is very important for sales
  • Write policies and procedures for the Manager of Wholesale as needed
  • Work on problems in the office that may consist of billing, personnel, etc. Maintain communication with staff to discuss any open issues/concerns
  • Work as intermediary between wholesale and production/meetings
  • Prepare and run all sales meetings
  • Run numbers weekly to see how we are doing compared to prior year to keep on track and share this data with the COO
  • Work collections on delinquent accounts and assist with problem customers, as needed
  • Be the eyes for the COO at the farm, i.e. managing crops and making suggestions on fall dig items
  • Work closely with the Inside Sales Facilitator and train this individual on “outside sales” so he/she knows the customers, company and procedures if coverage is ever needed

The qualified individual will have the following attributes: 

  • ISA Arborist Certification
  • Qualified Tree Risk Assessment
  • Certified Permaculture design
  • 3+ years nursery sales experience 
  • Proven success in establishing and reaching sales goals as assigned
