Tax Manager
A leading global privately-held developer and operator of sustainable energy solutions is looking to add a Tax Manager to their team. With 1000+ employees across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, they're innovators building an eco-friendly world, and are on the lookout for future leaders to join them!
Based in downtown Chicago, this organization has successfully developed almost 150 projects, including wind, solar, and natural gas power generation, as well as advanced energy storage facilities. Their impact is huge, and they pride themselves on creating a more sustainable future.
Responsibilities:
- Manage junior staff and enhance the quality of the team’s work product, including transaction details, trial balances, account detail analysis, and other necessary information requested by external tax return preparers for the federal, state, and foreign tax returns
- Review complex federal, state, and foreign tax returns for partnerships and corporations prepared by external tax service providers, including closely reviewing of Schedule M-3 and taxable income workpapers and allocations of income and liability for Form K-1s
- Perform a detailed review of partnership workpapers, including tax basis, capital accounts, 743(b) and 734(b) adjustments, and 704(c) allocations
- Analyze transactions to gain insights with varying degrees of complexity, including gathering relative data and information from Accounting and other departments and providing the information to the external tax service provider with an ability to explain the facts and key issues of the transaction
- Manage team members, along with other managers, to process tax compliance requirements for 100+ filing entities and provide timely deliverables to our investors
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly and year-end taxable income projections for multiple consolidated partnerships
- Manage various projects and processes; work closely with junior staff through coaching and developing
- Lead cross-functional discussions and projects in meetings and email communication
- Assist in the preparation of year-end tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740
- Review and assist junior staff in maintaining tax depreciation ledgers involving basis adjustments from renewable tax credits, Section 743(b) and734(b) adjustments, and other book-to-tax basis reconciliations
- Assist with tax audits, prepare responses to notices, and respond to other tax-related inquiries
- Assist in developing project plans and workable business processes for assigned projects or functions in alignment with function strategy
- Mentor junior staff to achieve business results
Required Skills:
- +5 years of progressive tax experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field; Master’s Degree in Taxation or CPA is a plus
- Experience with partnership tax compliance and transactions
- Self-starter to quickly learn new areas of tax as the business evolves
- Ability to work with new rules and ambiguity to develop analysis and guidance on issues
- Positive mindset to identify improvements and solutions
- Analytical, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to work independently and collaborate cross-functionally
- Strong cross-functional project management skills
- Detail-oriented and flexible to adjust priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency with software and system applications (Oracle, Excel, MS Word, Alteryx etc.) and ability to learn internal applications
Preferred Skills:
- Prior experience in the energy, power, real estate, or infrastructure space is a plus.
