A Chicago real estate company is seeking a Corporate Accountant to join the team in the Downtown Chicago HQ office. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with 1-2 years of experience in a related position.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for various aspects of the month-end close including calculation of corporate allocations and month-end accruals
- Review monthly financials for variances to budget as well as reforecast and provide detailed explanations
- Work with VPs to prepare the quarterly reforecasts and annual budget
- Work with the ops and payroll team to reconcile the bi-weekly union payroll as well as prepare the related accounting entries and review the monthly union benefit calculations
- Calculate and record expense allocations among the property and tradeshows on a monthly basis
- Prepare monthly reconciliations for various bank accounts as well as other balance sheet accounts, and ensure that reconciling items are researched and cleared in a timely manner
- Responsible for managing the property A/R aging: understand status of receivable and follow up with leasing VPs and collection specialists on a monthly basis
- Record monthly employee expenses submitted through Concur and ensure account coding is correct
- Maintain the corporate and tradeshow fixed assets using FAS
- Responsible for the preparation and timely submission of monthly sales tax returns
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly reporting to parent company
- Review and reconcile A/P checks against total approved invoices
- Research and approve new vendors
- Prepare journal entries in compliance with GAAP and the company's policies and procedures. Support entries with proper documentation and approvals
- Special projects as needed
Requirements:
- Ability to perform detailed work accurately with short deadlines
- Ability to interact with all levels within the company and handle matters professionally
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software, preferably Timberline
- Ability to manage time effectively, prioritizing competing and interdependent tasks in order to meet deadlines
- Comfortable working in a team environment
- Excellent analytical, communication and follow-through skills
- Strong work ethic that includes hones
