Fire Protection Engineer — Building Systems & Life Safety

Salary: $85,000 – $130,000 base (plus potential commission, DOE)
Design fire and life safety systems that protect people and power performance.
An integrated building systems consultancy is seeking Fire Protection Engineers at mid and senior levels. You’ll take a lead role in designing fire protection systems and ensuring code compliance for high-performance facilities — from labs and cleanrooms to campuses, R&D, and institutional spaces. This is a collaborative environment where fire protection sits side by side with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing disciplines.

What you’ll do
Develop fire protection layouts, specifications, and construction documents
Perform hazard analyses and code compliance reviews
Coordinate with other engineering groups to deliver integrated designs
Manage project scopes, schedules, and quality standards
Mentor junior staff and contribute to team training sessions
Stay current with NFPA, IBC, and local codes
What you bring
5–10+ years in fire protection consulting
Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering (or related field)
PE license preferred (required for senior-level roles)
Experience with fire alarm, suppression, and sprinkler systems
Strong communication skills and cross-discipline coordination ability
NCEES profile a plus for multi-state collaboration
This role is fully on-site in San Jose, CA. Remote or hybrid options are not available. Candidates must already live in, or be relocating to, the Bay Area.
