THE POSITION

This Director position is based out of the Sacramento area and involves a wide range of responsibilities and roles.  Primarily this role will focus on working with external affairs teams for a Fortune 500 technology and infrastructure company. This firm has a 20+ year relationship supporting this client organization. Your ability to participate and add value on public safety, crisis response, technology, and infrastructure deployment projects is an integral part of this role.

 Additionally, the Director will work with a small team of professionals, play a key role in supporting a legislative affairs team, and be an important client-facing position.  Therefore, they are looking to find an individual with judgment, maturity, a strong record of hands-on execution, & the ability to add consultative strategic value. This individual will be seen as a trusted advisor by clients and this firm's management team.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Familiarity and prior experience conducting public outreach programs involving stakeholders from state and federal agencies, advocacy organizations, industry, and local government in California is essential.
  • The successful candidate will have significant communications, public policy, program management, and outreach experience. Specifically, we seek candidates with public safety, technology, and community-oriented project experience.
  • Demonstrable experience working with local, state, and federal agencies, advocacy organizations, and various branches of California government is key.
  • Candidates with prior consulting and or agency experience are preferred but not essential.
  • Significant public affairs and community engagement experience that encompasses work with clients, community partners, and diverse stakeholders & communities are highly desirable.
  • Candidates who understand the cadence of a legislative process.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. 
  • Must have a current and relevant understanding of and experience in social media strategy, integrating messaging and directives for outreach communications strategies.
  • A demonstrable outreach background - comfortable working in forums of all sizes, including public meetings involving high levels of conflict.
  • Researching and writing a variety of communication materials such as summaries, public comments, briefs, and outreach plans that address diverse groups of stakeholders.
  • Specific experience with developing emergency communications plans.
  • Ability to manage the development of visual and digital content such as presentations, videos, brochures, and websites.
  • Project management and client coordination; prioritize and manage deadline-driven projects and collaborate with teams in multiple locations. Maintaining solid and collegial relationships with clients is vital.
  • All aspects of planning and executing stakeholder and public meetings, workshops, or other forums; the successful candidate is comfortable in front of diverse audiences while providing detailed and complex information. Prior experience interacting with multiple groups in conflict situations
  • The successful candidate will exemplify the highest ethical standards in every aspect of their work making decisions, large and small, that support the best interests of clients and the firm.
  • Will enjoy the challenges of developing new business as well as serving existing clients. Understand how to function successfully within a firm that has a collaborative culture of bringing the best resources to bear on a client’s behalf, regardless of where the resources are located. Understands that putting the client’s interest first encourages long-term partnerships and on-going success.
  • Be a strategic thinker with an ability to manage client programs that are distinctive, relevant, creative, and measurable.
  • The successful candidate will have a sense of humor; be viewed as a consummate professional and team player by direct reports, colleagues, and superiors; and will display a genuine passion for the position and its responsibilities.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 5 years experience.
  •  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Master’s degree, other advanced degree or educational equivalent is a plus, and may be considered in lieu of work experience.
  • Strong writing, presentation, and teamwork skills. Fluency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Experience with online collaboration tools. Proficiency with database management, Adobe Creative Suite software, and social media tools.
