Sr Compliance Manager

We are currently seeking a Sr Compliance Manager for a Michigan based vertically integrated cannabis company, involved with cannabis extraction, manufacturing and multiple-site retail dispensaries (provisioning centers), to oversee and ensure compliance with all state and local ordinances, rules, and regulations within the state of Michigan.

The Compliance Manager will work with various departments across the company to ensure the standard operating procedures incorporate the necessary compliance guidance and are being followed, keeping the company in compliance with all rules and regulations, with an eye towards ensuring that the most cost-effective and efficient compliant processes are in place.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working collaboratively with the Operational Staff, create SOPs to ensure compliance with the various Michigan state regulations and business standards
  • Help build a comprehensive compliance program for all operations
  • Create, evaluate and improve sound internal controls and monitor adherence to them
  • Revise procedures, reports, etc. periodically to identify hidden risks or non-conformity issues
  • Develop strong relationships within various regulatory agencies
  • Draft, modify and implement company policies
  • Coordinate efforts with State regulators to ensure interpretations of the State rules are accurate and pragmatic
  • Assist in assessing the business’s future ventures to identify possible compliance risks within their region
  • Review the work of colleagues when necessary to identify compliance issues and provide advice or training
  • Keep abreast of regulatory developments within or outside of the company as well as evolving best practices in compliance control
  • Prepare reports for senior management and external regulatory bodies as appropriate
  • Revising procedures, reports etc. periodically to identify hidden risks or non-conformity issues
  • Educate and train employees on compliance
  • Lead the license renewal initiatives, and liaise with local and state regulators and ensure compliance is met

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business Administration or a related field
  • A minimum of 5-7plus years of experience in audit and or compliance
  • Cannabis compliance experience is strongly preferred
  • Regulated Industry experience is necessary
  • Excellent knowledge of reporting procedures and record keeping
  • Methodical and diligent with outstanding planning abilities
  • Analytical mindset
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Certified compliance professional is a plus
  • Experience in risk management
  • Knowledge of legal requirements and controls (e.g. Anti-Money Laundering, or AML)
  • Familiarity with industry practices and professional standards
  • Audit background is preferable
  • Experience working with regulators
  • Experience writing manuals and or reports
  • Position requires up to 30% travel within the territory

Compensation: $135-150K depending on experience, plus benefits and profit sharing
