Director, Property Accounting - Commercial Real Estate - Newport Beach

A tier-1 commercial real estate company is seeking a Director of Property Accounting to lead their Property Accounting team. Managing a team of 10, the Director of Property Accounting will provide strategic oversight of all property accounting and financial reporting activities. This is an excellent role for a Property Accounting Manager or Portfolio Controller looking to take the next step in their career with one of the fastest growing commercial real estate firms in the US. 

Responsibilities

• Oversee full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of commercial real estate assets, including review and analysis of financial statements, general ledgers and supporting packages
• Lead, mentor and manage a talented Property Accounting team, while providing coaching and development opportunities
• Review and manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages for lenders and joint venture partners
• Review property level contribution and distribution calculations and ensure timely and accurate delivery of property level financial to fund and joint venture accounting teams
• Lead technical accounting efforts, ensuring accurate treatment of complex transactions including acquisitions, dispositions and capital expenditures
• Oversee the property onboarding process, including initial calculations, system setup and journal entry preparation
• Ensure appropriate internal controls, policies and procedures are implemented, maintained and documented across all property accounting functions
• Collaborate with asset management, finance, tax and third party vendors for audits, valuations and tax reporting
• Partner with Managing Director, Finance and Accounting and play key role in business strategy and systems enhancement

Requirements

• Bachelors in Accounting, Finance or related field
• 10+ years of progressive commercial property accounting experience
• 7+ years of management experience
• CPA and/or MBA a plus but not required
• Yardi Voyager experience a plus
• Advanced Excel capabilities
• Excellent communication skills and thrives in a collaborative environment
