Continuous Improvement / Process Engineer

 

A large mineral/chemical operation in Rock Springs, Wyoming, needs a process engineer that is very strongly oriented toward continuous improvement in manufacturing.

 

This is a sodium carbonate (trona) processing and manufacturing operation that is undergoing a plant-wide methods, process and ops upgrade.

 

The continuous improvement engineer will be a classic manufacturing engineer, but in a chemical environment (look up trona). A Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, Six-Sigma, or similar skill set is needed!

 

• Work with an operation manufacturing millions of tons/yr in sodium carbonate and related products
• General process:
• Work with ops, management, etc, to identify and quantify projects for improvement
• Set-up a project to address some discrete areas of processes or plants
• Quantify some goals
• Quantify steps to attain the goals
• Execute – and examine/re-examine as you go to ensure success
• Evaulate, report and make some SOPs so others can successfully use your improvements
• Risk Assesments:
• Safety
• Production
• Financial/budget
• Design/establish training tools, templates and SOPs
• Their system is a home-grown version of a few Kaizen/Six-Sigma/Lean type continuous and quantitative iterative improvement methods. So….be familiar with some of these!

 

Required/Preferred

• Degree in chemical, mechanical, manufacturing or industrial engineering
• 3 up to a lot more years of experience in appropriate field/area.
• Experience in continuous improvement systems in a heavy manufacturing setting. Extra points if with high-volume commodity manufacturing.
• Double extra points if something like chemicals, minerals, materiials, etc, in your background!
• Willing and able to work in and around a very large operating plant site in all sorts of weather.
• Able to work legally in the U.S. without need now, or in the future, for a visa or sponsorship (E-3 or TN might be possible)

Salary: depending on experience, but will be over $100,000, relocation, bonus
