A minerals/chemical company needs an automation engineer to work as part of a multi-site engineering team, managing projects, design, improvements in the area of automation and controls.

The position works very closely with their colleague in electrical and power.

The operation processes various salts/inorganic compounds from saturated brines. Primary areas of interest: getting the vast array of controls and instrumentation to work well with the processes and the humans to make proper product safely!

Key parts of the position:

  • This is a pretty classic automation engineering position in a chemicals/minerals plant.
  • Extensive management and engineering of all manner of generally plc-based automation system.
  • Design and implementation of systems start to finish; obviously with the help of the rest of the engineering team.
  • Able to work with areas of plant/s that have disparate and legacy automation subsystems while integrating, upgrading, troubleshooting, etc, operations.
  • At home with various areas of SCADA systems, HMI, PLCs, etc, including design, programming, etc.
  • I do not know if any of the plants use a DCS…I’ve not been to them all!
  • CAPEX project planning and execution by itself or as part of a larger plant improvement cooperating with ops, the engineering team, management, maintenance, etc.


Required and preferred:

  • A degree in appropriate engineering. Might be open to discussion of non-degreed.
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial automation; the more the better.
  • Basic experience with electrical power distribution, systems, etc
  • Must have some electrical/automation maintenance experience; more the better
  • Can have a detailed discussion, plus work with and know, as many of these terms and acronyms as possible: NFPA, NEC, Rockwell (Allen Bradley), CMMS, PLC and RTU, etc.
  • Experience wiring and programming a box
  • Safety: Electrical, plant, overall.
  • Must be willing and able to work in a potentially hazardous operating chemical plants safety and effectively.
  • US Resident/citizen. Potentially can discuss TN.


Salary is over $100,000, bonus, relocation.
