Nardin Academy High School is seeking a passionate and dynamic educational leader to be its next Principal. Founded in 1857, Nardin Academy is the oldest independent, Catholic school in Buffalo, consisting of a co-ed Montessori school, co-ed lower school, co-ed middle school, and a high school for young women.Known within Western New York for academic excellence, Nardin Academy encourages life-long learning and helps students ignite curiosity and find their inner passion and innate potential.

Along with the Academy wide leadership team, the Principal will contribute to the development of strategic initiatives and the future direction of the Academy in the Buffalo community.

The High School Principal will work collaboratively with an academic leadership team including principals from each school within the Academy. All four principals report reports to the Senior Vice President of Academics.

School & Community Leader

The Nardin Academy High School Principal will be a leader in the school community providing guidance, leadership, and collaborative opportunities to administrators, faculty, staff and students. At the same time, the Principal will have a strong presence in the Buffalo community, promoting and bringing awareness to Nardin, its standards of excellence, and the benefits of attending such a prestigious educational institution. To accomplish these efforts successfully, the principal will:

  • Foster and maintain a Christian community that supports the school’s core values and mission.
  • Emphasize high academic standards, innovative learning and character development.
  • Support the Academy’s admissions and enrollment efforts by attending events and recruiting students.
  • Develop strong relationships with faculty and staff to support student success and professional growth.
  • Maintain communication and relationships with parents to support student success and foster parent involvement.
  • Maintain regular communication with faculty, staff, students, families, and the community regarding the High School program and activities.
  • Evaluate High School faculty and staff; working with the Assistant Principal to ensure performance evaluations are being completed and feedback is being provided to faculty in a timely manner.
  • Meet with fellow principals and other educational leaders to discuss the progress of the High School, and work with them on faculty, staff, and student matters.
  • Serve as a member of the Academy leadership team to manage policies, procedures, and implementation processes.
  • Lead and be responsible for the recruiting and hiring of faculty.
  • Monitor students’ academic progress; facilitate meetings between families, students, advisors, and instructors to discuss areas of concern, to identify solutions, and to make recommendations.

Strategic & Innovative Educational Leader

The ideal candidate will display a genuine love, understanding, and appreciation for the Nardin student population; a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in education; and will demonstrate leadership, vision, adaptability, creativity, empathy, humor, energy, and an ability to understand multiple perspectives. The next Nardin Academy High School Principal will utilize these qualities to make key decisions and continue to create a dynamic Nardin community that will maximize students’ potential. Specifically, the principal will:

  • Work with the Senior Vice President to equip Nardin Academy faculty to fully prepare students to flourish in competitive higher education colleges and universities.
  • Encourage and provide opportunities beyond academic achievement for the development of students to help them become well-rounded, independent, self-assured adults.
  • Communicate a clear and convincing vision for the High School, translating this into strategy and clear operational plans to ensure the on-going success of the High School.
  • Supervise and work with department chairs and faculty to develop engaging curriculum and ensure that it is well-articulated, developmentally-appropriate, grounded in current educational best practices, and aligned across grade-levels and divisions.
  • Prepare for and address external challenges, ensuring the High School retains the flexibility to respond to changes in the education market.
  • Understand the importance of working in conjunction with families to help children excel.

The right candidate for this role will appreciate collaborating with other experienced school administrators and be passionate about working as a team.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Work in conjunction with the Vice President of Finance and Operations to prepare an annual budget, as well as monitor adopted budgets.
  • Act as an educational leader for the High School, responsible for its daily operations; to direct the activities of the High School instructional and non-instructional staff in the performance of their duties.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of committees as determined by the Board of Trustees and/or the President of the Academy.
  • Work with the Business Office to issue annual contracts.
  • Assist with the organization for High School assemblies and social events and actively participate in these events.
  • Establish guidelines for student academic and behavioral policies.
  • Prepare and publish a master schedule of classes, the school calendar, and faculty and staff assignments.
  • Coordinate Professional Development programs for faculty and staff.
  • Other duties mutually agreed upon.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited educational institution;
  • Minimum of ten (10) years classroom teaching experience combined with prior administrative experience;
  • Demonstrated leadership and initiative in the field of education;
  • Interpersonal and instructional leadership skills necessary to promote increased student achievement through a commitment to continuous improvement, educational innovation, and student-centered learning environments;
  • Commitment to faith, spirituality, and Christian values and an ability to lead students, families, and staff in Catholic traditions;
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instructional programs;
  • Skill to work closely with people in an effective manner;
  • Knowledge of scheduling and supervision;
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; and
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize.
