The Chief Executive Officer is the strategic leader of the organization, building upon the agency’s strong reputation in the community as a collaborative leader and innovator in human services.

STRATEGIC & VISIONARY LEADER

The CEO will lead the development of People Inc.’s vision and strategy for the future, built on a strong foundation of innovation, collaboration, community support, and leadership in the IDD sector. The CEO serves as the principal resource to the Board of Directors and will work closely with the Board and senior leadership team to identify and drive the strategy for the organization and build the necessary talent, systems, and culture to optimize industry and organizational opportunities. In order to do so the CEO will:

  • Be a strong and present resource for families and advocate groups, always putting the people we support and their families at the forefront of everything we do.
  • Lead strategic planning and its implementation – consulting the governing Board to establish a road map with measurable outcomes, translate broad goals into achievable steps, and align resources behind that plan.
  • Understand the complex realities of the environment and maintain a belief in a better future, providing Vision, purpose, direction, and motivation to all members of the People Inc. team.
  • Take responsibility for change and challenge the status quo.
  • Ensure alignment of People Inc.’s brand, core capabilities, and Mission
  • Be a strong advocate for systems and policy change at the State and National level. Understand the dynamics of the local, regional, and national environments, and use this knowledge to meet the needs of our community.
  • Collaborate with the Board and senior leadership team to lead courageously, champion new initiatives, push for needed changes, anticipate and solve problems, and be a team player.
  • Inspire innovation and motivate a cohesive, effective senior leadership team to grow strategically.
  • Be dedicated to shared and measurable goals creating, resourcing, scaling, and leveraging strategies and innovations for broad investment and impact while maintaining regulatory compliance and the highest standards of quality.

Plan, monitor and evaluate the Agency’s program of service in order to maintain a high level of effectiveness and responsiveness to the needs of the community.

SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE, COMMUNITY LEADER

The CEO will be a highly visible leader in the community and at the state level. They will have a strong affinity for serving others with the mission of ensuring that individuals with disabling conditions or other special needs have the supports they need to participate and succeed in an accepting society incorporated into all organizational initiatives. They will have a high degree of social consciousness and show concern for the greater community, inspiring others to contribute to the Mission. In order to do so the CEO will:

  • Be responsible for ensuring that People Inc. continues to find innovative approaches and funding sources for new programs that support the agency’s mission.
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with People Inc. key constituencies, and function as a liaison between People Inc., funders, regulatory bodies, government representatives, and with partner agencies with which People Inc. collaborates.
  • Oversee public relations and outreach strategies and speak on behalf of the agency to employees, the public, partners and the media.
  • Be a liaison to key external partners, trade associations, Person Centered Services and other Care Coordination agencies, TriaDD, CP State and DDAWNY.
  • Value the power of networks; striving to leverage People Inc’s community presence, relationships, and strategy.
  • Provide the appropriate level of transparency inside and outside of the organization in order to create team and community cohesiveness around the People inc. Mission.
  • Provide opportunities for senior leadership team members to lean into their areas of expertise, make recommendations for change and/or continuous improvement, and create an environment of trust and transparency to foster calculated risking-taking and innovation.

BUSINESS, FINANCIAL, & OPERATIONAL LEADER

The CEO will possess a high level of broad business and management skills and will be responsible for ensuring the organization’s financial and operational success. In order to accomplish this, the CEO will:

  • Build a team of professionals with the experience and competencies necessary to successfully lead the financial and operational complexities of the organization.
  • Operate with the utmost transparency and accountability at the board and staff level.
  • Work closely with the senior leadership team to ensure People Inc’s fiduciary and compliance responsibilities are fulfilled in a transparent and responsible manner.
  • Work with the CFO to maximize fiscal stability and mitigate financial risks.
  • Together with the Senior Leadership Team, develop a fiscal strategy to enable progress toward economic self- sufficiency and minimize dependence on government funding sources.
  • Work with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure the relevance, impact and effectiveness of Agency programs; preserve and protect the corporation’s status, property, and business interests.
  • Work with the Chief Administrative Officer to maintain an environment to attract and retain a highly motivated staff, develop future leadership, and provide guidance to ensure the agency attracts and retains the most qualified employees.
  • Lead the senior leadership team through strategic decision making on issues affecting the growth and stability of the organization i.e., evaluation of potential alliances, funding sources, acquisitions and or mergers and investments.
  • Develop and maintain an appropriate level of knowledge of managed care and related readiness elements for downstream providers and government affairs and legislative advocacy.
  • Ability to scale the organization to effectively support the programs and services offered now and, in the future, while maintaining regulatory compliance and the highest standards of quality.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience leading an organization in IDD, healthcare, or other human services fields in New York State or in a similar regulatory environment required.
  • In depth knowledge of NYS regulations governing the work of the agency or experience and knowledge in a similar regulatory environment.
  • 7- 10 years’ experience in a senior strategic leadership role required.
  • Extensive leadership experience in administration of NFP organizations of comparable size and mission and/or across multiple sectors, including nonprofit, public and corporate environments.
  • Experience developing partnerships, building teams and conflict management.
  • Articulate and effective communicator with a high level of emotional intelligence.
  • Demonstrated track record of leading a team of senior management professionals, as well as extensive experience with budgeting, financial management, and financial reporting for an organization with a multi-million-dollar budget, ideally with multiple funding streams.
  • Successful experience with fundraising and resource development.
  • Proven experience working successfully to bring people together in a multi-ethnic diverse environment.
  • Highly skilled in negotiations within the organization and with funding sources and outside partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead through a crisis internally or at the community level.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of intelligence and intellectual curiosity and desire to explore new ideas and innovative approaches to solving problems.
