Install, configure, and maintain an organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), data communications network, operating systems, and physical and virtual servers. Perform system monitoring and verify the integrity and availability of hardware, network, and server resources and systems. Review system and application logs and verify completion of scheduled jobs, including system backups. Analyze network and server resource consumption and control user access. Install and upgrade software and maintain software licenses. May assist in network modeling, analysis, planning, and coordination between network and data communications hardware and software.
Supervisory Responsibilities: May Supervise less experienced System Administrators in solving complex system issues
Essential functions
Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments, including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configuration
Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware
Operate master consoles to monitor the performance of computer systems and networks and to coordinate computer network access and use
Gather data pertaining to customer needs, and use the information to identify, predict, interpret, and evaluate system and network requirements
Design, configure, and test computer hardware, networking software and operating system software
Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations, and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes
Experience with automation tools to manage configuration and administration tasks
Manage virtual environments, including deploying and managing virtual machines (VMs)
Troubleshoot complex system issues and provide solutions for resolution
Tune system performance for memory, processes, and network utilization
Collaborate with cross-functional teams on the design, installation, and maintenance of virtual desktop infrastructures and backup solutions
Monitor and manage IT assets and inventory
Basic Qualifications
8 or more years of experience as a System Administrator
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field or relevant work experience
Thorough understanding of networking protocols, LAN networking, and WAN networking
Relevant Certifications (A+, Network+, Security+, RHCSA, RHCE, CCNA, MS Azure, etc.)
Ability to evaluate networks and systems to make sure that they perform reliably and to anticipate new requirements as organizations’ needs change
Ability to explain technical concepts and processes to non-IT workers
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems that arise with computer networks and systems
Strong programming skills and the ability to work with a variety of computer hardware and software tools
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience leading less experienced System Administrators
Ability to obtain a government security clearance
