Design Technologist

 Our client is reshaping the Big Data landscape with its cloud-based machine data analytics platform with an All-Star team.They are seeking a Design Technologist, a visually-inclined designer to join their scaling team in Redwood City. You will work as a member of the design system team and will be responsible for researching, designing, testing, and documenting the UI components and IxD Patterns to service the product development team.

As a design systems team, our goal is to enable UI/UX to scale towards high quality delivery with greater speed and consistency. We want to facilitate the scaling of UI/UX by having a system architecture to align people, sustain the process, govern the component development and guide teams by standardizing UI and IxD Patterns

Our product is a real-time continuous intelligence platform. We have over 2000 customers and we analyze 100+ petabytes of data daily! Our customers turn to our platform to analyze their machine data to make critical decisions and respond rapidly.

The UX Design Team at Sumo Logic creates consumer-level user experience for complex data visualizations and information design of enterprise-level capabilities. That sounds complicated, and it is. But our team is close-knit, and we swarm frequently on all of the design problems we’re facing.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and define UI components in the product
  • Establish global IxD design patterns and best practices
  • Evaluate the design based on design system standards and IxD best practices
  • Explore and iterate on new UI component and IxD Design
  • Collaborate with the Research team and product teams to test usability and versatility
  • Document usage, patterns, anti-patterns and take design specification to completion
  • Collaborate with engineers on finalizing the design
  • Create prototypes to evaluate best solution according to needs


Minimum Requirements

We are looking for candidates who are self-motivated and able to work both independently and in collaboration with a team. The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • A strong portfolio that showcases your end to end work from research to implementation
  • Deep knowledge of modern, emerging web UI patterns and design tools
  • Experience with user research in building the product and testing to validate key insights
  • 5+ years of professional experience designing consumer or enterprise applications
  • The ability to easily understand the ramifications of design decisions on a global level
  • A keen eye for visual nuance coupled with an empathy for generating accessible UI
  • No coding required but familiarity with UI technologies/frameworks (React JS, Angular, HTML CSS, Javascript)
  • Experience and ability to communicate with the UI Engineers and reciprocate the technical feedback into the IxD Design
  • Must be able to join immediately
  • Advanced prototyping experience

 

Preferred Requirements

  • Previous Design Systems experience, familiarity with accessibility and localization, and an interest in motion design
  • Information design/data visualization experience
  • Knowledge in Atomic Design
  • Front end development skills is a plus

Within 6-9 months you will be

  • Responsible for elevating the visibility of the Design System to the Product Development Organization
  • Play a crucial role of growing a Design System team by significant contribution in elevating IxD design standards
  • Be a part of the original design systems team and build a design-centric culture with us
