The Monitor Technologist ensures that heart monitors and associated equipment are functioning correctly, examines patient heartbeat patterns noting irregularities and reports status to the medical staff in charge of patients.

JOB DUTIES

  • Observe and interpret patients’ heart monitors checking for abnormalities, including irregular heartbeats, arrhythmias and cardiac arrest
  • Attach electrodes to patients’ bodies and record electrical impulses from the heart to perform EKG’s
  • Use hospital equipment and medical technology to perform various tests on patients’ hearts, such as stress tests
  • Recognize and respond to any abnormal conditions in patients’ heartbeats
  • Interpret test results and report any changes in heart readings or EKGs to the Doctor or Nurse in charge of the affected patient
  • Update patients’ records with all readings taken from the heart monitors or EKGs
  • Clean and maintain heart monitors and EKG machines
  • Report any necessary equipment repairs in a timely manner
  • Assist with training new staff in medical monitoring systems
  • Delivery exceptional patient care

The Monitor Technologist assumes other responsibilities as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Analytical ability to apply criteria and evaluate information to make decisions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; and excellent interpersonal skills to team with patients and staff
  • Understanding of patient care, medical terminology, coding procedures, reference tools, and appropriate clinical pharmacology for medical assistant scope
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful environments
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Ability to stand, walk, talk, hear, sit; reach with arms, hands and fingers to handle and feel; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; taste and smell

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate of an accredited EKG or Monitor Technician program, required
  • BLS, required
  • 1 year experience in Medical Monitoring or related field, preferred
