GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Pharmacy Technician assists licensed pharmacists with the preparation and distribution of prescribed medications. S/he fills orders for patients, ensures that they are delivered to the correct units and assures appropriate drug inventory.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Prepare medications for patients
  • Receive and verify medication shipments
  • Deliver medications to medical staff
  • Enter charges and credits into medical records and billing systems
  • Obtain pharmacist’s approval for prepared doses
  • Unit dose preparation of oral solids and liquids from bulk bottle
  • Restock automated medication dispensing systems
  • Ensure availability of drugs by delivering them to patients or facilities
  • Assist with area checks for drug control and inventory management
  • Maintain pharmacy’s (and its patients’ employees’) safety by adhering to infection-control procedures, policies and regulations
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information according to HIPAA and company policy

The Pharmacy Technician assumes other responsibilities as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Analytical ability to apply criteria and evaluate information to make decisions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; and excellent interpersonal skills in teaming with patients, medical staff and the public
  • Detail oriented with proven ability to multitask
  • Professional appearance and ease in developing rapport with others
  • Computer skills including MSOffice, Outlook, Meditech, preferred

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate of accredited Pharmacy Technician program, required
  • Current National Pharmacy Technician certification or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment, required
  • Current Kansas State Board of Pharmacy Technician License, required
  • BLS, required
  • 1-2 years’ clinical pharmacy experience, preferred
