Oncology - Infusion RN/Infusion Services Case Manager FT Days

The Infusion RN/Infusion Services Case Manager (RN) focuses on assuring proper care of outpatient infusion patients while coordinating and advocating for them, contingent on their individual needs. S/he will be required to review patients’ charts and meet with families and providers to establish the most suitable course of action. The RN Case Manager assures appropriate utilization review and may interact with insurance companies and external sources to coordinate the best options. The RN Case Manager is a professional who navigates the care for patients in the outpatient setting including prior authorizations, denial management, care planning, appointment and referral coordination and assists the patient as needed to get the care ordered by physicians.

The Registered Nurse is a professional who cares for patients coming into our facility including tasks like creating and maintaining accurate patient records, administering medication and monitoring for side effects, recording vital signs, and reporting symptoms and changes in patient conditions for all ages of patients from infancy to advanced age. S/he provides care that reflects an integration of knowledge, skills, and experience to meet the needs of patients and families. The RN is accountable for all care provided to assigned patients during the shift, including the care delegated to nursing assistants and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). They effectively use psychosocial and physical assessments in order to make decisions regarding the care required.

JOB DUTIES – INFUSION RN SERVICES/INFUSION SERVICES CASE MANAGER

  • Visits with all patients to explain the patient care flow for outpatient services
  • Schedule infusions and physician appointments
  • Order testing in Meditech per Provider request
  • Assist with addressing patient’s questions and needs
  • Coordinate treatment plans with providers
  • Monitors patient and family satisfaction ensuring that they feel supported and educated
  • Suggest and coordinate appropriate follow-up services and resources to promote wellness
  • Consult with insurance carriers as needed for prior authorizations and potential denial of services
  • Assist patients with completing patient assistance applications as needed
  • Become competent in providing RN nursing coverage for chemotherapy infusion area
  • Communicate care plans with the outpatient infusion patients as well as coordinate their care plans including the need for prior authorization, denial management, coordination of care with physicians, etc.
  • Coordinates the care plan for the patient to receive the infusions and/or other treatment plans as ordered by the Provider
  • Works a liaison on behalf of the patient to complete the prior authorization for the recommended plan of care
  • Provides back up coverage the Oncology Case Manager or the Outpatient Services Staff RN as needed

JOB DUTIES – INFUSION STAFF RN:

  • Implement physicians’ orders, administer medications, start IVs, perform treatments, procedures and special tests, and document treatment as required by company policy and local/state/federal rules and regulations
  • Effectively communicate with providers regarding patient lab and diagnostic reports, condition, progress and treatment options
  • Assure diagnostic tests ordered or prescribed by provider are completed in timely manner
  • Assess and evaluate patients' needs for, and responses to, care rendered
  • Apply sound nursing judgment in patient care management decisions
  • Provide primary and emergency care for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses
  • Administer IV and non-IV medications as ordered
  • Collaborate with the nursing team to create a Plan of Care for all patients
  • Direct and guide ancillary personnel and maintain standards of professional nursing
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information according to HIPAA and company policy
  • Work towards Chemotherapy Infusion certification
  • Participates in annual chemotherapy infusion education

The Infusion RN/Infusion Services Case Manager assumes other responsibilities as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Professional appearance and ease in developing rapport with others

  • Accurate clinical assessment skills regarding patient medical conditions
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians and hospital staff
  • Computer skills including MSOffice, Outlook, Meditech, preferred
  • Willingness to cross train and cover other positions and responsibilities as needed
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, required
  • Current Registered Nurse licensure with the State of Kansas, required
  • Credentials required per CRMC policy, state and regulatory requirements for chemo infusion
  • Bachelors degree, preferred
  • Clinical experience in the area of work, preferred
