Assistant Controller

A large publicly traded REIT seeks an Assistant Controller to join their dynamic team. The Assistant Controller position will report to the Controller and support the management of the daily accounting department activities to ensure that financial and operating reports are timely and accurately reflect the condition of our global operating companies. This position will also serve as the liaison between our domestic and foreign Controllers and Managers team. Additionally, this position will work directly with the SVP on ad-hoc projects, project management of key F&A initiatives, and assist with streamlining operations.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and oversight over accounting operations, processes and reporting.
  • Maintain and improve processes and timing of the monthly close, analytical review of monthly operating results and accounting workbooks and ensure compliance with SOX
    • Ensure financial reports, including sub-schedules, are accurate, well written, timely, and consistent with GAAP.
    • Develop, streamline and automate manual processes.
    • Monitor daily cash balances and effectively manage and communicate cash flow-related issues.
    • Assist in overseeing global budgeting and consolidated financial reporting for offices in North America, Europe, and Asia
    • Review and approve corporate invoices
    • Understand and review corporate G&A and transactions with affiliates, such as fee income, cost reimbursements, and deal costs allocations
    • Assist with accounting system restructuring, simplification, and implementation
    • Identify problem areas and assist in finding and implementing solutions
    • Analyze and report variances to operating budgets and prior period
    • Mentor, provides supervision, training, and development of staff
    • Perform other duties as requested by management

       

      Qualifications:

    • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
    • 8 – 10 years of progressive accounting experience with a minimum of four years in Big 4 public accounting, progressive Manager responsibility, and proven success in managing staff
      • Detail-oriented and strong project management skills
      • Proficiency in MS Excel is required. Yardi experience is a plus
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills to convey information and ideas clearly
    • Strong work ethic with a desire to continue professional development
    • Positive leadership style, ability to work effectively under pressure with minimal supervision
