Job Overview

In this role, you will lead the business development/sales efforts of the company. This will be an individual contributor role. You will oversee the relational development, shaping of targeted clients, and the award of profitable new business, while maintaining specific client relationships and developing new or enhanced avenues of revenue for the future. This role is responsible for identifying, developing, and maintaining strategic client relationships while serving as a visible & respected leader of the company when interacting with clients, the community, joint venture partners, employees, trade partners and suppliers. The role is also responsible for learning and understanding the company’s services as it relates to current market and trends. As the Business Development Manager, you will be accountable for working closely with marketing staff in developing and executing the operating group’s sales and marketing plan. You will ensure that it is executed according to the company’s standards, and that it is supported by the necessary business functions and processes to guarantee a successful outcome.


Primary Responsibilities

• Develop a business development strategy plan that supports the company’s overall business

plan to win projects

• Identify and secure new business that achieves quarterly and annual sales goals

• Lead prequalification efforts with targeted clients

• Arrange and participate in meetings with potential clients

• Research industry competition and market trends to successfully position this company in project opportunities

• Participate in strategy and development of client proposals and interview strategies

• Develop a strategy to actively pursue leads including prequalification efforts with targeted

customers to determine viable pursuits

• Lead strategic proposal / RFP response writing

• Build relationships and communicate regularly with current clients

• Maintain ongoing relationship management with clients

• Develop and maintain relationships with influencers such as design professionals, engineering

professionals, owner representatives, community leaders

• Provide regular industry blogging and have professional social media presence

• Attend conferences, industry events, meetings and participate in relevant industry organizations, trade shows, panels, and boards

• Research trends and create new opportunities to increase sales

• Initiate survey gathering and client feedback related to proposals, presentations, projects

• Train / coach PM staff on good client relations and business development

• Initiate customer feedback related to proposals and presentations

• Develop and manage client satisfaction feedback process

• Maintaining a strong understanding of Welsh service offerings

Must be a self-starter, highly organized, and able to work well with team members at all levels in the organization. Polished presentation and interpersonal skills. Must possess top-level business development, sales and relationship building skills



  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering/Management, Business Administration, Marketing, or related field.
  • Knowledge of commercial construction is a major plus
  • Experience: 7-10 years in business development sales or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated involvement and relationships in local AEC / real estate community is a plus.
