Accounting Manager

Position Overview:

This Accounting Manager position is responsible for the oversight and/or completion of most aspects of the day-to-day accounting and finance functions of the company such as revenue recognition, risk management, cash management, capital expenditures, account reconciliations, internal controls, variance analysis, month end close and certain financial reporting. The Accounting Manager role has direct supervisory responsibility for the company Customer Service function related to billing, risk management, and order fulfillment. This is a very hands-on role requiring great attention to detail, process, internal controls and accuracy. The Accounting Manager will work closely with the Controller, Senior Staff Accountant and Bookkeeper in this role. This position is essential to the overall success of the company and will provide valuable experience and growth for those that wish to continue to advance their corporate accounting career at HM Cragg.


Reporting Relationship: The Accounting Manager reports to the Controller




Accounting Operations / Financial Reporting

  • Preparation and first level review of monthly financial statements to include variance analysis, accuracy and compliance with GAAP accounting rules
  • Support for the financial and operational reporting functions of all company business units and stakeholders
  • Identify, develop, implement and monitor internal controls which will safeguard company assets
  • Timely and accurate completion of reconciliations for certain balance sheet and key income statement accounts
  • Ensure capital expenditure procurement process is followed by all
  • Support during the annual year-end external CPA review along with compliance work related to external financial and ESOP reporting
  • Identify, define and implement process improvement opportunities in all areas of Accounting Operations
  • Other projects as assigned including serving as backup for the Controller, Senior Staff Accountant, and Bookkeeper for any and all accounting functions


Revenue Recognition / Customer Service

  • Lead and manage the accounts receivable, customer credit risk and order fulfillment (customer satisfaction) functions of the company
  • Supervise and manage the Customer Service (CSR) team for all day-to-day operations, issue resolution, process improvement, and career development (currently a team of 4)
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of all Revenue transactions of the company
  • Lead all direct reports and company stakeholders in protecting company accounts receivable through timely and proactive customer risk assessment, credit limit assignment and appropriate collection efforts
  • Develop and maintain documentation of all key processes related to revenue recognition, cash management, risk management and accounts receivable
  • Responsible for sales tax compliance including the state registration process, filing of returns, organization and completeness of sales tax exemption certificates, and coordination of third-party sales tax services
  • Manage cash applications, new customer set up, and credit risk management as performed by the Bookkeeper
  • Other projects as assigned

Travel expectations: Minimal travel necessary (less than 5%)

  • Rare visits to HM Cragg remote offices including but not limited to Chicago, Kansas City, Omaha and Billings, MT
  • Occasional local travel for training, conferences and business partner meetings


Posting Qualifications:

  • 4 year Accounting degree
  • 3-6 years relevant prior experience
  • Efficient in using Microsoft Suite of products including Excel and Word
  • ERP and CRM software proficiency required
  • Knowledge of Sage 100 system is a plus, not required
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and organization skills in person or on video calls
  • Ability to work in an organized, self-directed manner
