CSE is looking for a highly motivated and talented Software Test Engineer to join our growing team! This position will provide software test engineering support to AWIPS Evolution (AE) and Mission Assurance (MA) areas, in the National Weather Service.

CLIENT OVERVIEW

The Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration/National Weather Service's (NOAA/NWS) weather forecasting data and display toolkit. AWIPS ingests and analyzes data, creates useful visualizations and distributes time-sensitive weather statements such as watches and warnings. AWIPS enables forecasters to make weather predictions that can ultimately save lives. It is a complex network of systems that ingest and integrate meteorological, hydrological, satellite and radar data.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Software Test Engineer will work as a software tester, as part of a larger team, supporting the critical system used by the National Weather Service to successfully achieve their mission on a daily basis of protecting lives and property.As the AWIPS Test Engineer, you will interface with the whole SDLC team and ensure the quality of the release delivered to the customer. The candidate should have experience and knowledge with software testing, the ability to think critically and a proven track record of responsible task ownership and reliable execution.

The candidate will:

  • Execute and track statuses of tests throughout the life cycle of a release.
  • Participate in Agile scrum teams, which include cross-functional members of the team.
  • Collaborate with our NWS partners on system functionality as it pertains to requirements of the system.
  • Maintain the test suite, both automated and manual test cases.
  • Assist with investigations into issues reported in production for root cause isolation.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Security Clearance: Public Trust

  • Four (4) or more years directly related to software testing.
  • Bachelor of Science, BS in a Math, Science or Engineering related field
    • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. (Please include your GPA on your resume.)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain a Public Trust - candidate must be able to pass a National Agency Check (NAC).

PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with Test-Driven-Development (TDD)
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript, Python and Bash Scripting.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of a Linux OS.
  • Demonstrated personal ownership of job responsibilities.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to correlate disparate data sources to identify systemic trends.
  • Working knowledge, at a minimum, of the following: Redmine workflow management tool; Remedy Service management application; GIT distributed version-control system Command Line Interface (not GIT Hub web UI); Gerrit code collaboration tool, Jenkins automation server; SonarQube; QF-Test)
  • Understanding of SAFe principles, especially with regards to test approach.
  • Understanding of testing principles and tools.
  • Background in weather or weather-based systems,
