Senior Tax Accountant

Our client is seeking a highly motivated senior tax accountant to oversee day-to-day operations and to continue to grow through regular interaction with its Director, Taxes and Head of Tax. The successful candidate must demonstrate critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage conflicting priorities.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research, coordinate with Director, Taxes and Head of Tax, draft technical memorandums, and articulate findings to supervisors.
  • Assist Director, Taxes and Head of Tax with special projects, as applicable.
  • Assist with the preparation of all monthly, quarterly and annual GAAP and STAT federal income tax provisions and coordinate deliverables with external service provider.
  • Ensure financial reporting accuracy and monitor close calendar, integrity of general ledger, annual tax elections, and analyze results by performing reconciliations.
  • Coordinate with external service provider on the preparation of all federal and state income/franchise tax returns and installment tax calculations and ensure timely remittance of all required tax filings and tax payments.
  • Assist with product tax issues including withholding tax and policyholder tax and Form 1099 reporting requirements.
  • Provide support for the preparation of all premium tax returns and remittance of premium tax installment payments prepared by the Premium Tax Accountant, on an as-needed basis.
  • Provide support for the preparation of all federal and state policyholder withholding tax returns and the calculation and remittance of installment payments prepared by the Premium Tax Accountant, on an as-needed basis.
  • Coordinate the preparation of business tax or occupational license tax requirements with all municipal jurisdictions with the Premium Tax Accountant.
  • Ensure compliance with state licensure requirements and ensure all applicable fees are remitted timely. Maintain tax calendar to ensure compliance with the Company’s tax compliance and reporting obligations.

 Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Master’s degree in accounting or Master’s degree in taxation (MST) preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in tax accounting or related field. Public accounting experience and CPA license preferred. Experience with Oracle and Clearwater technology solutions a plus.
  • Effective communication and relationship building skills and strong verbal and written skills, with both internal and external business partners.
  • Candidate must have strong critical thinking, research and analytical skills.
  • Candidate must have the ability to articulate technical concepts in a clear and concise manner.
  • Highly proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
