Director of Finance

Our client, headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, owns and manages apartment communities.

They are currently looking for a Director of Finance to join their team!

They handle all aspects of owning and operating our apartment communities in-house. That means our leadership team needs diverse skills and an “I’m up for anything” attitude. The Director of Finance leads several teams and reports to the Co-President and Chief Financial Officer. This leadership encompasses day-to-day management plus creating improvement and growth in all areas.

Teams you will lead:

  • Budget/Financial Review including presentation/communication with owners
  • Expense Control/Contract Management
  • Collections/Eviction Process (current and past residents)
  • Internal Audit

 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Expand and improve teams led overall
  • Find software solutions, internally developed and commercially available, to improve team and company performance
  • Budgeting and forecasting for over fifty apartment communities
  • Monthly financial and operating results review with ownership and regional leadership
  • Big picture financial presentations/communications for ownership
  • Grow our expense control team which is in its beginning stages
  • Continuously improve the collections/eviction process in a changing regulatory environment
  • Consolidate current internal audit and internal control efforts into a single team and ensure risk areas are identified and addressed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or similar
  • CPA or MBA preferred
  • 10-15 years’ total business experience including responsibility for various departments/teams
  • Real estate experience, multi-family residential preferred
  • Track record of leading complex projects to successful implementation
  • Experience evaluating financial metrics and decisions
  • Experience with cost control and contract management
  • Experience with external, internal, or process audits
    • Ability to analyze and document business processes
    • Ability to think analytically and solve problems
      • Excellent written and communication skills
      • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
