Assistant Controller– Charleston SC

We are engaged with a restaurant ownership group seeking a qualified Assistant Controller to join their team, assisting the Controller and CFO with general accounting, reconciliations, month-end close and financial statement preparation. The Assistant Controller will supervise a small staff executing the payroll process and oversee A/P and A/R. He or she will play a key role in the corporate budgeting process, tax planning, the development and implementation of internal controls and financial audit processes.

Solid accounting knowledge, business acumen and knowledge of GAAP standards is required. Prior personnel management skills (overseeing 2-5 staff) and exceptional organization skills will be necessary to succeed in this role.

Our client is headquartered in South Carolina and employs more than 2,000 staff operating approximately 100 restaurants in the quick service space.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee, coach and develop a small team
  • Maintain oversight for daily accounting, maintenance of the general ledger system, accounts payable and receivable and payroll
  • Execute the account reconciliations process, support the month-end close process and prepare and consolidate financial statements and reporting
  • Execute cost variance analysis and reporting
  • Support the development and evaluation of budgets, including preparation of budget reports and integration into the accounting system
  • Design, implement and manage internal controls with regards to accounting and finance processes, procedures and data management systems
  • Prepare for and assist with internal and external audits
  • Ad hoc analysis and reporting as requested

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA – highly preferred
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a similar role
  • Prior management/supervisory experience is required
  • Excellent understanding of GAAP and financial accounting regulations
  • - Strong software skills and knowledge of accounting programs
