Mechanical Engineering Group Manager

Position Summary
The Mechanical Engineering Group Manager meets project development goals (new projects). They are responsible for the performance and bi-annual evaluation of all engineers and designers assigned to the discipline. They support Project Managers and conduct themselves in a professional and ethical manner.
The Mechanical Engineering Group Manager reports to the President, consults with the Director of Projects for the delivery of engineering services, and confers with the Director of Marketing in matters related to business development.

- Work with Project Managers to provide timely and cost-effective engineering and design support.
- Collaborate with the Structural Engineering Technical Manager to provide input on estimates and scope development for Project Managers.
- Provide approval authority of contracts up to $20,000. Confers with the Director of Projects and/or President for approval of contracts over $20,000.
- Responsible for all discipline engineering and design staff assigned to the discipline to ensure the adoption, implementation, and enforcement of all corporate procedures related to the delivery of engineering services.
- Helps develop professional paths for all managed staff (i.e. recommending specific external staff training opportunities).
- Responsible for discipline staff utilization and staffing requirements. Works with the Director of Projects, Director of Marketing, and President to assess staffing requirements based on contracted backlogs, proposal forecasts, and corporate Strategic Plan.
- Responsible for scheduling engineering staff with all Project Managers and ensuring that appropriate staff are available to each project manager to meet project schedules.
- Mentors and provides guidance and on-the-job training to discipline staff. Completes performance evaluations timely.
- Follows general organization-wide and engineering-specific policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- Contributes to the corporate Strategic Plan and Marketing Plans.
- Works closely with the Director of Projects and keeps him apprised of any project activities that may impact schedules, staffing requirements, or financial performance concerns.
- Participates in the Monday Morning Managers Group.
- Work to meet or exceed QA standards, supports Structural Engineering Technical Manager.
- Work to meet or exceed QA standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer
- PE license
- 10+ years of experience
- 2+ years’ experience as a project manager or equivalent
- Strong organizational skills
