SUMMARY
We are seeking a Structural Engineer with expertise in steel structure design and analysis in San Antonio, TX. This person will design and build custom generator enclosures, fuel tanks, access platforms, and power system structures that keep critical infrastructure running. This role mirrors Mechanical Engineering and Design positions in scope and collaboration, but with a focus on structural integrity, load-bearing systems, and compliance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and engineer structural steel assemblies, skids, platforms, and support frames for custom generator and power system enclosures
- Apply structural calculations, load analysis, and code compliance (IBC, AISC, AWS, OSHA) to ensure safety, functionality, and manufacturability
- Work in SolidWorks to develop models, drawings, BOMs, weldments, and frame assemblies
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical engineers, project managers, drafters, and shop leads) to ensure designs are practical, buildable, and aligned with customer needs
- Conduct engineering checks of designs, validate structural assumptions, and guide drafting teams on proper detailing
- Own structural deliverables on projects from kickoff through production, including submittals, reviews, and field issue support
- Participate in design reviews, continuous improvement efforts, and development of standard structural practices and libraries
- Help develop and maintain our in-house engineering standards for platforms, supports, foundations, and lifting systems
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Structural, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering
- 3+ years of structural design experience in a fabrication or industrial environment
- Proficiency with structural analysis software (e.g., RISA, STAAD, or equivalent)
- Solid experience in 3D CAD modeling and drafting SolidWorks preferred
- Working knowledge of structural and welding codes: AISC, AWS D1.1, IBC, OSHA
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
- Collaborative attitude and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience designing access systems, walkways, stairs, and fall protection components
- Familiarity with generator packaging, mechanical integration, or fuel tank systems
- Experience building or fabricating what you design—we value engineers who understand the shop floor
