The General Accountant is a crucial member of the accounting team who report directly to the Accounting Manager, and is assisting with accounting period end schedules, reconciliations, and other monthly, quarterly, and annual duties. This position is responsible for maintaining financial records, including preparing and posting journal entries, ensuring proper general ledger coding, values, and approvals. The General Accountant will also assist with completing accurate and timely vendor payments and complete period end bank reconciliations for all company bank accounts.

 Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Support the day-to-day accounting functions including AR, AP, Procurement, and Inventory
  • Participate in the full-cycle accounting functions
  • Assist with month end closing and preparation of monthly reporting packages, such as, banks reconciliation, general ledger reconciliation, balance sheet and project reconciliations
  • Assist in month end accounting cycle and ensuring all financial activities are captured and reported in accordance with Company policies and ASPE
  • Assist with cheque runs; Prepare and submit EFT payments for approval
  • Process Credit Applications and ensure the timely collection of outstanding Accounts Receivables
  • Resolve invoicing discrepancies by positive interaction with internal and external customers and/or suppliers
  • Prepare and reconcile intercompany billings and accounts
  • Monitor and reconcile inventory– work closely with operations to ensure accurate recording of inventory purchases and consumption, reconciliations & physical counts
  • Contribute to the continued improvement of processes and internal controls
  • Assist with year end closing and annual audit
  • Administrative support for President or Controller where required

Qualifications:

  • Ideally 3-5 years' experience in a similar accounting role
  • Experience in manufacturing industry, as well as Sales and Services invoice and inventory processing experience will be considered an asset
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work under tight deadlines
  • Detail orientated, accurate and takes initiative
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and an ability to interact with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Must be a self-starter and team player
  • Previous experience using Microsoft Dynamics 365 would be an asset
