Senior Life Insurance Underwriting Case Manager / New Business

The position will be responsible for managing all aspect of case management and the preliminary underwriting process for the Houston office. Must communicate with carriers, vendors and/or underwriters at the carrier level on a daily basis. Must maintain and solidify relationships with producers. Good command of time management skills is necessary to manage cases through the underwriting process.


· Manage workflow queues and conduct timely and thorough reviews of all assignments in a manner that supports the department goals for turnaround time, and that meet the department’s expectations

· Coordinate and expedite all new business Life and Disability Income insurance applications to various insurance carrier

· Manage pending case load; respond to all underwriting communication; facilitate status and negotiate underwriting offers for business placement

· Explain to and educate financial advisors on the impact of underwriting requirements including but not limited to medical impairments, financials, etc.

· Follow up with brokers, agent, and insurance carriers for missing/outstanding information and submit to insurance carriers on behalf of agents

· Review policies upon receipt for accuracy, submit corrections and ensure policy delivery to agents.

· Gather and organize information and reports on cases in underwriting

· Schedule exams and request medical records when required

· Review of underwriting requirements; determine impairments and or risks based on medical, physical, occupational, financial or insurable interest and work with agent to determine appropriate product and illustration specifications

· Update the client management system to ensure case and client data is current and accurate

· Stay current on insurance carrier’s underwriting, product, compliance and submission requirements. Gain understanding and implement into daily process

· Schedule meetings with underwriting team to review and discuss pending cases

· Verify if producer is appointed and licensed with the appropriate carrier and state

· Complete other tasks as assigned



· A minimum of 3 years related insurance experiencing dealing with multiple carriers

· College degree preferred but not required

· Accustomed to working in a fast pace, team-oriented environment

· Capacity to solve problems while considering impact to client and firm

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Ability to exercise independent & sound judgement in decision making

· Excellent time management and organizational skills

· High attention to detail

· Multitasking with the ability to manage continually changing priorities and ability to prioritize work based on customer service needs and departmental regulations

· Self-motivated & able to work independently

· Ability to work collaboratively with multiple professional disciplines and with diverse populations

· Proficient in Microsoft Office

· Understanding of medical terminology and medical conditions helpful

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $55,000.00 per year
