The Cook is a role model for young learners emphasizing nutritious meals; has a great attitude toward food and safe and sanitary habits; prepares and serves attractive, appealing, and flavorful meals.

The Cook also educates staff and families on the nutritional needs of children and supports age-appropriate feeding practices; responsible for meeting accredited nutrition standards and following the Academy policies and procedures.

Pay: $15.00 - $16.00 per hour

Location: Oakleaf

Hours: 6:30 am-2:30 pm

CHILD CARE COOK ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

MEALS/FOOD

  • Develop/maintain a seasonal menu based on the guidelines of the Federal Food Program, sticking within the allotted budget. This includes ordering items needed as well as cleaning and paper products.
  • Maintain and make permanent records and any necessary updates of any menus, recipes, and quantities.
  • Prepare breakfast, lunch, and snacks each day according to health and sanitation standards.

SANITATION AND SAFETY

  • Clean all cooking, counter, and table surfaces, floors, dishes, and cookware according to the program policy manual.
  • Keep a posted record of children’s allergies and consider them in meal planning.
  • Ensure all food is labeled correctly, properly stored, and discarded per DCF Guidelines & Food Program requirements.

INTERACTION WITH CHILDREN, PARENTS, AND CO-WORKERS

  • Have consistent professional, child/work-related, and positive interaction with all parents.
  • Have positive interaction with children, engaging in meaningful conversations.
  • Use appropriate channels to settle disputes. Avoids unnecessary discussion and open criticism of peers, directors, parents, and children.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND SAFETY

  • Conduct all work in compliance with DCF Rules & Regulations and the Childcare Federal Food Program Guidelines.
  • Enforce all safety rules of the center according to the policy manual; understand and
  • Assist with, as needed, emergency procedures for fire, storm, medical, First Aid, CPR, etc.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 45 hours of DCF training, or completed within 90 days of employment.
  • Active CPR & First Aid Certification.
  • Specific requirements set by minimum standards and/or accreditation.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as a worker in the field of early childhood education (preferred)

Physical Requirements:

  • Bend, stoop, and kneel to children’s level.
  • Stand for extended periods of time.
  • Carry and lift heavy objects.
  • Use cleaning chemicals.
  • Insert hands in dishwater and bleach water to wash and sanitize dishes and
  • cookware.
