The Harrison Rush Group - New York, NY, United States

Job Title: Director, Business Development & Origination (Software)

Location: Flexible (North America or Europe) Experience Level: 8–12+ Years Firm Type: Leading Middle Market Software Investor

Role Overview

As the Director of Business Development & Origination, you will be the primary engine for the firm’s deal flow. You will lead the charge in identifying, sourcing, and qualifying proprietary investment opportunities within the software and technology sectors. This is a high-visibility role requiring a blend of strategic market mapping, proactive outreach, and the ability to build long-term relationships with founders, CEOs, and intermediaries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Thematic Sourcing: Drive the firm’s investment thesis by identifying high-growth sub-sectors within the software ecosystem (e.g., SaaS, FinTech, Cybersecurity, EdTech).

  • Origination Strategy: Execute a multi-channel sourcing strategy, including direct outreach to founders and maintaining a robust network of investment banks, brokers, and advisors.

  • Relationship Management: Act as the "face of the firm" for prospective portfolio companies, building trust with owners and management teams long before a transaction occurs.

  • Deal Qualification: Conduct initial assessments of business models, financial health, and strategic fit against the firm’s investment criteria.

  • Cross-Border Collaboration: Work closely with the investment committees in both North America and Europe to ensure a seamless handoff from origination to execution.

  • CRM Management: Maintain rigorous data hygiene in the firm’s CRM (e.g., Salesforce, DealCloud) to track the health of the pipeline and report on origination metrics.

Candidate Profile

  • The Software Specialist: Deep understanding of software metrics (ARR/NRR, LTV/CAC, Rule of 40) and the specific dynamics of middle-market tech.

  • The Networker: An existing "rolodex" of intermediaries and founders, with a proven track record of finding "off-market" deals.

  • The Communicator: Exceptional presence and persuasion skills; able to articulate the firm’s value proposition to a skeptical founder in a crowded market.

  • The Global Mindset: Comfort navigating different business cultures across the US and EMEA markets.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or CFA preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years in Private Equity sourcing, Investment Banking, or Enterprise Software sales leadership.

  • Tech Literacy: Mastery of sourcing tools (PitchBook, Crunchbase, LinkedIn Sales Navigator) and CRM platforms.

Why Join Us?

  • Autonomy: High degree of freedom to shape your territory and sourcing style.

  • Incentives: Competitive base salary with a performance-driven carry or bonus structure tied to successful deal closings.

  • Culture: A collaborative, fast-paced environment where business development is viewed as a core pillar of the firm’s success.
